Progeny from single females of four known races of Heterodera glycines Ichinohe were used to establish relatively uniform populations. Single females from these populations were mated with males of other races in all possible combinations to study compatibility and inheritance patterns. When race 1 or 3 was crossed with either race 2 or 4, there was a significant reduction in number of females ...

The influences of sex and age upon endurance performance have previously been documented for both running and swimming. A number of recent studies have investigated how sex and age influence triathlon performance, a sport that combines three disciplines (swimming, cycling and running), with competitions commonly lasting between 2 (short distance: 1.5-km swim, 40-km cycle and 10-km run) and 8 h ...

This paper presents a formal game-theoretic model to explain the simultaneity problem that has made it di cult to obtain unbiased estimates of the e ects of both incumbent and challenger spending in U.S. House elections. The model predicts a particular form of correlation between the expected closeness of the race and the level of spending by both candidates, which implies that the simultaneity...

OBJECTIVE This narrative review summarizes recent intentions to find potential predictor variables for ultra-triathlon race performance (ie, triathlon races longer than the Ironman distance covering 3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling, and 42.195 km running). Results from studies on ultra-triathletes were compared to results on studies on Ironman triathletes. METHODS A literature search was perfo...

Six studies explored the overlap between racial and gender stereotypes and the consequences of this overlap for interracial dating, leadership selection, and athletic participation. Two initial studies, utilizing explicit and implicit measures, captured the stereotype content of different racial groups: the Asian stereotype was seen as more feminine whereas the Black stereotype more masculine c...

Dwarf bunt of wheat, caused by Tilletia controversa Kühn (TCK), is a destructive disease on wheat, as well as an important international quarantine disease. The traditional methods for diagnosis and detection of the disease were mostly based on the morphological characteristics, germination test of teliospores, and the symptom of disease in the field, resulting in a long procedure and low accur...

Data races are a common problem in concurrent programming. This article describes a tool which is able to detect low level data races in Java programs and heal them – all at run-time. This tool is build on top of IBM ConTest, a concurrency testing software. The tool uses a modification of the Eraser algorithm to detect data races and implements two techniques of data race healing.

Genealogical trees have been constructed using mitochondrial ND5 gene sequences of 78 Damaster (s. str.) specimens from all over the Japanese Islands. Eight lineages (called races in this paper) have been recognized. The races are tightly linked to geography with sharp distribution boundaries between them. The races and their distribution ranges do not coincide with those of classical morpholog...

This paper investigates an approach for statically preventing race conditions in an object-oriented language. The setting of this work is a variant of Gordon and Hankin’s concurrent object calculus. We enrich that calculus with a form of dependent object types that enables us to verify that threads invoke and update methods only after acquiring appropriate locks. We establish that well-typed pr...

The race condition checker rccjava uses a formal type system to statically identify potential race conditions in concurrent Java programs, but it requires programmer-supplied type annotations. This paper describes a type inference algorithm for rccjava. Due to the interaction of parameterized classes and dependent types, this type inference problem is NP-complete. This complexity result motivat...
