the photocatalytic decolorization of aqueous solutions brown ng, a commercial textile dye, was studied using titana degussa p-25 as a catalyst for the first time. the experiments were carried out in a batch reactor with the use of artificial light sources (uv-c). the effects of various process variables on decolorization performance of the process have been investigated. the photodegradation of...
The selective oxidation of alcohols into carbonyl compounds using dioxygen in lieu of toxic or corrosive stoichiometric oxidants such as ClO , Cr, and Cl2, is one of the most challenging functional group transformations. The oxidation of alcohols using dioxygen as the oxidant has been successfully realized by using noble-metal and transitionmetal complexes for catalysis. TiO2 photocatalysis has...
This work focused on the degradation of toxic organic compounds such as methyl violet dye (MV) in water, using a combined photocatalysis/low pressure reverse osmosis (LPRO) system. The performance of the hybrid system was investigated in terms of the degradation efficiency of MV, COD and membrane separation of TiO2. The aim of the present study was to design a novel solar reactor and analyze it...
The pyridine-rich complex [NiII(LN2Py3)(MeCN)](ClO4)2 (1) acts as an efficient electro- and photocatalyst in the generation of H2 from water. Observed TONs reach 1050 for electrocatalysis and a remarkable 3500 for photocatalysis. Experimental and DFT data support the ligand-reduced [NiIL˙] as the catalytically active species, contrasting with the [CoIL] observed for cobalt catalysts.
This paper describes the basics of photocatalysis on semiconductors, mainly on TiO2 and the application of photocatalytic processes to water purification from organic matter. The second chapter is devoted to metal cocatalysts introduced in order to improve the photocatalytic action of titania. Finally, a short review of more interesting practical applications of the processes is presented.
Multifunctional Bi2O3 porous nanospheres (PNs) with tunable size have been successfully synthesized via a facile solvothermal method. The obtained Bi2O3 porous nanospheres demonstrate outstanding performance in visible-light-driven photocatalysis for Cr(VI) and organic dye removal, inactivation of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, as well as template-synthesis for fabrication of bismuth...

In this communication, we provide a new method for characterizing the kinetics of a catalytic process on multiple sites of a single nanowire by dark-field-assisted surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (DFSERS). The differences in the reaction rate and the extent of the photocatalysis between sites of a single nanowire were observed.
Trace amounts of urea derivatives enhance the rate of nitrobenzene N3-sensitized TiO(2) photoreduction by catalyzing the proton transfer. The usually required addition of transition metal co-catalysts becomes dispensable for this visible light photocatalysis, facilitating its application in organic synthesis.
We have examined the time-dependent effect of the titanium oxide photocatalysis on N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone individually dispersed single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) suspensions. From optical spectroscopic studies, we found a selective decoration of the semiconducting tubes. Such selectivity is attributed to the preferential attack of the photogenerated active species on the hole-doped semicond...
