Robot precision is usually characterized by repeatability and accuracy. In this paper, we show that these indices are not sufficient to describe robot behaviour at the micrometre scale. New, precision performances are discussed and the experimental procedure to estimate these indices is described. The main results of the experimental work performed on...

This paper presents the design and development of a dynamic scheduler of parallel threads in the Multithreaded multiProcessor Architecture (MPA). The scheduler relies on an onchip associative memory whose management time is overlapped with the execution of ready threads. The scheduler efficiently assigns resources to threads, and permits them to communicate with great flexibility. The results a...

HBase is the open source version of BigTable distributed storage system developed by Google for the management of large volume of structured data. HBase emulates most of the functionalities provided by BigTable. Like most non SQL database systems, HBase is written in Java. The current work’s purpose is to evaluate the performances of the HBase implementation in comparison with SQL database, and...

In this paper, we use statistical data mining techniques to analyze a multivariate data set of career batting performances in Major League Baseball. Principal components analysis (PCA) is used to transform the high-dimensional data to its lower-dimensional principal components, which retain a high percentage of the sample variation, hence reducing the dimensionality of the data. From PCA, we de...

A swarm-bot is a robotic entity built of several autonomous mobile robots (called s-bots) physically connected together. This form of collective robotics exploits robot interactions both at the behavioral and physical levels. The goal of this paper is to analyze the physical performance of a swarm-bot as function of its size (number n of s-bots composing it). We present three tasks and the corr...

Highly structured artificial neural networks have been shown to be superior to fully connected networks for realworld applications like speech recognition and handwritten character recognition. These structured networks can be optimized in many ways, and have to be optimized for optimal performance. This makes the manual optimization very timeconsuming. A highly structured approach is the Multi...

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a generic wireless system which transmits unique identity code using radio waves. This rapidly emerging technology, used to identify objects attached with tags, consists of a reader, tag and wireless channel. The reader & the tag both consist of a microchip and an antenna performs handshaking whenever the both interact. In the present work, a matlab base...

The qualitative assessment of music performances is a task that is influenced by technical correctness, deviations from established performance standards, and aesthetic judgment. Despite its inherently subjective nature, a quantitative overall assessment is often desired, as exemplified by US all-state auditions or other competitions. A model that automatically generates assessments from the au...

Our research interest is in supporting live music performances for remote audiences. Using the Evaluation Grid Method (EGM), we have analyzed why music audiences prefer live shows to recorded media and have found that a sense of unity is one of the important factors. It can be at least partly reproduced at the remote site by sharing information on audiences’ reactions.

The aim of this study was two-fold: i) to analyse age-related declines in swimming, cycling, and running performances for Olympic and Ironman triathlons, and ii) to compare age-related changes in these three disciplines between the Olympic and Ironman triathlons. Swimming, cycling, running and total time performances of the top 10 males between 20 and 70 years of age (in 5 years intervals) were...
