In this study, relations between winter-time Pacific-Northern America pattern (PNA)/East Pacific wave-train (EPW) and winter-time drought in the west United States over the period of 1951-2010 are analyzed. Considering traditional Pearson's Correlation Coefficient can be influenced by non-stationarity and nonlinearity, a recently proposed method, Detrended Partial-Cross-Correlation Analysis (DP...

T he theory of island biogeography has been the central tenet of conservation biology for several decades, a tenet in which continental landscapes are viewed islands of suitable habitat patches embedded in a matrix (i.e., surrounded by a sea) of unsuitable habitat. Patch size and isolation are predicted to be the critical variables in determining the efficacy of these habitat patches in preserv...

An empirical formula for thermal stability (T m) prediction of PNA/DNA duplexes has been derived. The model is based on the T m as calculated for the corresponding DNA/DNA duplex employing a nearest neighbour approach, by including terms for the pyrimidine content and length of the PNA to take into account the increased thermostability of PNA/DNA hybrids and the asymmetry of the PNA-DNA heterod...

Peptide nucleic acids containing 2-pyrimidinone (P) and 3-oxo-2,3-dihydropyridazine (E) heterocycles recognized C-G and U-A inversions in a polypurine tract of double helical RNA with high affinity and sequence selectivity at pH 6.25. E-modified PNA bound strongly to bacterial A-site RNA, while no binding was observed to the human A-site RNA.
