Background: Identification of the prognostic factors for survival in patients with liver transplantation is challengeable. Various methods of survival analysis have provided different, sometimes contradictory, results from the same data. Objective: To compare Cox’s regression model with parametric models for determining the independent factors for predicting adults’ and pediatrics’ survival aft...

Methodologies for reducing the design-space dimensionality in shape optimization have been recently developed based on unsupervised machine learning methods. These methods provide reduced representations of design space, capable maintaining a certain degree original variability. Nevertheless, they usually do not allow to use directly parameterization method, representing limitation their widesp...

A parametric model for the infrared signature caused by a buried land mine is presented. Further, a detector is calculated for the case where the background noise can be described by an autoregressive process. The detector separately estimates the parameters of the mine and the noise in an alternating fashion. The estimates are then used in the likelihood ratio test. Simulations show that signi...

This article considers Bayesian analysis of matched case-control problems when one of the covariates is partially missing. Within the likelihood context, the standard approach to this problem is to posit a fully parametric model among the controls for the partially missing covariate as a function of the covariates in the model and the variables making up the strata. Sometimes the strata effects...

In recent years, a wide range of markers have become available as potential tools to predict risk or progression of disease. In addition to such biological and genetic markers, short term outcome information may be useful in predicting long term disease outcomes. When such information is available, it would be desirable to combine this along with predictive markers to improve the prediction of ...

This study employs a semi-parametric Cox proportional hazard model to study the relationship between survival time and bank-specific determinants of failure of commercial and agricultural banks during the recent recessionary period. Results indicate that non-performing consumer and commercial loans have seriously impaired banks‟ financial health and survival.

Background and purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the implant survival rates and the length and diameter in disabled veterans attending Qazi Tabatabai Dental Clinic, Tehran, Iran during 2000-2010. Materials and methods: A retrospective study was conducted in 181 disabled veterans referring to Qazi Tabatabai Clinic. They received 1,255 implants from thr...

BACKGROUND The probability of cure is a long-term prognostic measure of cancer survival. Estimates of the cure fraction, the proportion of patients "cured" of the disease, are based on extrapolating survival models beyond the range of data. The objective of this work is to evaluate the sensitivity of cure fraction estimates to model choice and study design. METHODS Data were obtained from the...

rational functions are of great interest to engineers and geoscientists. the rational polynomial coefficient (rpc) model as a generalized sensor model has been introduced as an alternative for the rigorous sensor model of the satellite imaging. numerical instability of normal equations is the only single obstacle to the implementation of these functions. practically, estimating rational functio...

We introduce a framework to build a survival/risk bump hunting model with a censored time-to-event response. Our Survival Bump Hunting (SBH) method is based on a recursive peeling procedure that uses a specific survival peeling criterion derived from non/semi-parametric statistics such as the hazards-ratio, the log-rank test or the Nelson--Aalen estimator. To optimize the tuning parameter of th...
