A better understanding of the evolution bottom current circulation and associated deposits is significant for many applications including paleoclimatology geological hazard. Besides large contourite drifts, currents may generate fields sediment waves that, depending on their height velocity migration, pose severe risk infrastructures. Conversely, time span paleoceanographic record generally rel...
We present a systematic compilation of previously published Holocene proxy climate records from the Arctic. We identified 170 sites from north of 58 N latitude where proxy time series extend back at least to 6 cal ka (all ages in this article are in calendar years before present – BP), are resolved at submillennial scale (at least one value every 400± 200 years) and have age models constrained ...
As a symptom of evolution, human beings are always trying to better understand current and past events so we are able to foresee future situations and develop new tools or methods. The data registered over millions of years is an impressive source of information that, for instance, help us to model earth dynamics or to make climatic predictions. We find the largest and oldest record in the ocea...

The echeline genus Leptencbelys is recognized as monotypic and differs markedly from M uraenich th ys. Scbism orbyncbus, genus novum, is erected for M uraenichth ys labialis Seale. The genus M uraenichthys contains 19 known species in the tropical, subtropical, and temperate Indo-Pacific Ocean. M. cbilensis, a new species showing affinities to southern Australian congeners, is the first known f...
We analyze the effect of the simultaneous presence of correlated additive and multiplicative noises on the stochastic resonance response of a modulated bistable system. We find that when the correlation parameter is also modulated, the system’s response, measured through the output signal-to-noise ratio, becomes largely independent of the additive noise intensity. ∗Electronic address: tessonec@...
iran is one of the limited numbers of ancient countries which is almost totally located on earthquake belt. earthquakes have always been the most important natural hazard in iran. many villages, cities, civilizations and monuments have been partly or totally destroyed by past earthquakes in iran. as a developing country, iran is expanding its cities, industries, dams, power plants etc. the rece...
Geomorphology is the study of Earth’s landforms and the processes that shape them. From its beginnings, geomorphology has embraced a historical approach to understanding landforms; the concept of evolving landforms is firmly ingrained in geomorphic thought. Modern process geomorphologists use the term landscape evolution to describe the interactions between form and process that are played out ...
Lacustrine fossil records provide long time series of data on limnological and climatic conditions; these data are useful for establishing natural patterns of climate variability and for generating testable hypotheses about atmospheric circulation and climate-ecosystem linkages. Shoreline features can indicate past lake-level fluctuations that may reflect changes in moisture balance, but often ...
The Asian monsoon system is a major component of both regional and global climate. Evolution of monsoonal climates in southern Asia is linked to the growth of the HimalayanTibetan orogen, the opening and closing of marginal seas, and changes in global climate. The location of the South China Sea (SCS) between East Asia and the “maritime continent” is ideal to record the paleoceanographic respon...
