Outdoor images Outdoor images that are captured in inclement weather are degraded due to factors like haze and fog. This factor diminishes the visibility of the image. Haze is formed due to two fundamental phenomena namely, attenuation and the air light. Attenuation reduces the scene contrast and air light increases the whiteness in the scene. Images may also contain impulse noises which are pr...

A rapid diffusion of stereoscopic image acquisition devices is expected in the next years. Among the different potential applications that depth information can enable, in this paper we focus on its exploitation as a novel information source in the task of scene classification, and in particular to discriminate between indoor and outdoor images. This issue has not been addressed so far in the l...

The generation of 3-D models is a fundamental part of computer graphics and often requires many hours of skilled labour or the use of very expensive equipment. With the increasing demand for virtual environments and objects to populate them, convenient 3-D model generation has become a very important problem to be solved. Generating 3-D models of large outdoor structures poses particular proble...

In this study, two thermal-tolerant mutants of Chlorella sp. MT-7 and MT-15, were isolated. In indoor cultivation, specific growth rate (micro, d(-1)) of the mutants were 1.4 to 1.8-fold at 25 degrees Celsius and 3.3 to 6.7-fold at 40 degrees Celsius higher than those of wild type. The carbon dioxide fixation rate of both microalgal mutants was also significantly higher than that of wild type. ...

In this work, we investigate how illuminant estimation techniques can be improved, taking into account automatically extracted information about the content of the images. We considered indoor/outdoor classification because the images of these classes present different content and are usually taken under different illumination conditions. We have designed different strategies for the selection ...

This research aims to obtain 3D information by using spatio-temporal analysis of omni images for outdoor navigation and map-making in the intelligent transportation system (ITS) application. Two types of omnidirectional cameras are employed to make a spatio-temporal volume, which is a sequence of omni images stacked in the spatio-temporal space. For the spatio-temporal analysis of an omni image...

Embedded smart cameras are gaining in popularity for a number of real-time outdoor surveillance applications. However, there are still challenges, i.e., computational latency, variation in illumination, and occlusion. To solve these challenges, multimodal systems, integrating multiple imagers can be utilized. However, trade-off is more stringent requirements on processing and communication for ...
