BACKGROUND Current national efforts provide an opportunity to integrate performance measures into clinical practice and improve outcomes for children. OBJECTIVE The goal of this study was to explore issues in developing and testing measures of care for children with otitis media with effusion (OME). Perception of voicing cues by children with early otitis media with and without language impairment.
Research on the relationship between early otitis media with effusion (OME), language impairment, and central auditory processing has been equivocal. Identification and discrimination tasks provide us with a sensitive method of assessing speech perception on both an auditory and a phonetic level. The present study examined identification and discrimination of initial bilabial stop consonants di...

The histopathological changes in the temporal bones of 3 deceased donors individuals with concomitant chronic cholesteatomatous otitis media have been studied. The different forms of cholesteatoma are analyzed: the primary congenital, the primary acquired and the secondary acquired. The different clinical relevance and the different therapeutic guidelines are discussed.
The Haemophilus influenzae P4 lipoprotein (hel) is a potential component of a nontypeable H. influenzae otitis media vaccine. Since P4 is known to be an enzyme, nonenzymatically active forms of recombinant P4 are required. After site-directed mutagenesis of the hel gene, three of the mutated proteins were shown to be vaccine candidates.
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a rare disease in children. Children with NPC almost always have the undifferentiated variant of the disease, which is associated with advanced locoregional and distant metastasis. We report two cases to illustrate that high index of suspicion is necessary to diagnose NPC in children especially those with atypical presentation of otitis media with effusion (OME).
We appreciate the comments and historical perspective of Drs. Deeb and Ashktorab regarding our Triological Society Best Practice publication, “Is Nasopharyngoscopy Necessary in Adult-Onset Otitis Media with Effusion?” We sought to identify the most relevant publications directly addressing our question and to characterize the level of evidence so that we could generate a best practice summary. ...
INTRODUCTION Otitis media and rhinosinusitis are commonly encountered illnesses in pediatric population. Literature reports have documented the association between the occurrence of these two conditions and even their almost identical microbiological findings. Until recently, the key factor in the association of these two conditions was considered to be the hypertrophic adenoid tissue, but with...
