This is the first scanning electron microscopic demonstration of the three-dimensional architecture and detailed surface structures of the entire osseous labyrinth of the cochlea. Mouse cochleae were observed after dissolving the soft tissues with KOH and NaOCl solutions. The precise shapes, surface structures, and orientations of the primary osseous spiral lamina and secondary osseous spiral l...
Osseous overgrowth is an important problem after traumatic or surgical amputations in children. It is rather exceptional in congenital amputations. We report three cases of congenital amputation of the humerus with osseous overgrowth. They were treated with an autologous stump plasty according to Marquardt's technique.
Osseous and in particular vertebral sarcoidosis is exceedingly rare and a difficult diagnosis to establish because it may simulate many diseases, including even metastatic malignancy. we present a patient with lesions in bones, lungs and lymph nodes, mimicking the presence of extensive metastatic disease. our case emphasises the importance of histological evidence before the diagnosis of osseou...
Swelling of jaws with mixed opacity and lucency can have a spectrum of differential diagnosis, which includes odontogenic tumors, fibro‐osseous lesions and rarely the connective tissue neoplasms. With respect to the fibro‐osseous lesions, most of the time, histopathological features will be overlapping. In such cases, it is very important to arrive at a precise diagnosis for better treatment pl...
INTRODUCTION Charcot Neuroarthropathy is a complex lower extremity pathology which predisposes the afflicted limb to ulcerations, osteomyelitis, and risk of major amputation. Charcot Neuroarthropathy often requires osseous reconstruction, which can be complicated with osteomyelitis and hardware infection. When soft tissue and osseous deficits must be concomitantly addressed, the use of PMMA spa...
Results PET-CT scans demonstrated increased abnormal osseous uptake in 63 cases, of which 52 were true osseous invasion, but 11 were false-positive (4 due to osteoradionecrosis, 4 benign dental infection/inflammation, 3 over-staging due to intense FDG-uptake nearby the bone). 708 cases were reported as ‘no osseous uptake’, of which 704 were truenegative, but 4 were false-negative (2 due to intr...
This study describes the clinical features, radiological appearance, and treatment of 11 new cases of osseous lipoma and reviews 301 other cases in the literature. Osseous lipomas are classified by the site of origin: either within bone (intraosseous lipoma) or on the surface of bone (juxtacortical). Intraosseous lipomas include intramedullary and intracortical lesions. Surface lipomas include ...
AIM To present a case of expansive focal cemento-osseous dysplasia and emphasize the importance of differential diagnosis. BACKGROUND Cemento-osseous dysplasia is categorized into three subtypes on the basis of the clinical and radiographic features: Periapical, focal and florid. The focal type exhibits a single site of involvement in any tooth-bearing or edentulous area of the jaws. These le...
We present a case of a lower limb compartment syndrome associated with the use of an intra-osseous line inserted into the proximal tibia in an adult patient. An unconscious 59-year old male with multiple injuries presented to our Emergency Department after a road traffic accident. Bilateral proximal tibial intra osseous-lines were inserted due to poor venous access. After resuscitation his left...
