Alkyl bromides and chlorides can be reduced to the corresponding hydrocarbons utilizing zinc in the presence of an amine additive. The process takes place in water at ambient temperatures, enabled by a commercially available designer surfactant. The reaction medium can be readily recycled, and the amount of organic solvent invested for product isolation is minimal, leading to very low E Factors.

The layered-solvothermal synthesis of zinc acetate dihydrate with 5-phosphonobenzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid yields a three-dimensional rutile-type porous metal-organic framework, which is an anionic open-framework containing local proton transfer with hydrated protons and showing excellent size-selective properties.

We report a high-resolution gas-phase UPS spectrum of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) together with a detailed analysis of the vibronic structure of the first ionization band, showing that presents the lowest value of the intramolecular reorganization energy experimentally reported for a molecular organic semiconductor.

Metal complexes emitting thermally activated delayed fluorescence based on intra-ligand charge transfer and enhanced by metallization were synthesized. Organic light-emitting diodes using a thermally stable zinc complex processed by vacuum vapor deposition achieved an external quantum efficiency of nearly 20%.

A membrane-less organic-inorganic flow battery based on zinc and quinone species is proposed. By virtue of the slow dissolution rate of the deposited anode (<11.5 mg h-1 cm-2), the battery has a cell voltage of ca. 1.52 V with an average energy efficiency of ca. 73% at 30 mA cm-2 over 12 cycles.

Organic solar cells based on a series of water-soluble zinc phthalocyanines (wsZnPc) with varying numbers of sulfonate peripheral substituents and a C60 donor have been fabricated and characterised. We find that the number of substituents affects both the V(oc) and J(sc) of the devices, with the disulfonated wsZnPc devices performing best.

A series of isostructural, noncatenated, zinc-pillared-paddlewheel metal-organic framework materials has been synthesized from 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(carboxyphenyl)benzene and trans-1,2-dipyridylethene struts. Substantial kinetic selectivity in the adsorption of propene over propane can be observed, depending on the pore apertures and the rectangular-plate morphology of the crystals.
