In the present paper, the focus is on the evaluation of steel dual-system frame buildings using four main types of structural analysis (Linear Static, Linear Dynamic, Nonlinear Static and Nonlinear Dynamic Analyses) with regard to "Seismic Rehabilitation Code for Existing Buildings in Iran" (based on FEMA 273 and 356) where the first two authors of the article tend to follow the previous work (...

Intra-day measurements of three time series (DJIA, gold fixings and USD-JPY exchange rates) are examined for evidence of deterministic nonlinear dynamics. Standard linear surrogate techniques and estimation of dynamic invariants demonstrate that linear noise models are insufficient to explain dynamic variability in intra-day returns. Therefore, the data may not be modeled as a monotonic nonline...

This article proposes a new method for data assimilation and data reconciliation problems applicable to systems modeled by conservation laws. The problem is solved directly in the equivalent format of a Hamilton–Jacobi partial differential equation, for which the solution is fully characterized by a Lax–Hopf formula. Using properties of the solution, we prove that when the data of the problem i...

abstract type-ii fuzzy logic has shown its superiority over traditional fuzzy logic when dealing with uncertainty. type-ii fuzzy logic controllers are however newer and more promising approaches that have been recently applied to various fields due to their significant contribution especially when the noise (as an important instance of uncertainty) emerges. during the design of type- i fuz...

pushover analysis is a simplified nonlinear analysis technique that can be used to estimate the dynamic demands imposed on a structure under earthquake excitations. one of the first steps taken in this approximate solution is to assess the maximum roof displacement, known as target displacement, using the base shear versus roof displacement diagram. that could be done by the so-called dynamic p...

The reference reconciliation problem consists in deciding whether different identifiers refer to the same data, i.e. correspond to the same real world entity. In this article we present a reference reconciliation approach which combines a logical method for reference reconciliation called L2R and a numerical one called N2R. This approach exploits the schema and data semantics, which is translat...

In this paper, the dynamics of multicellular chopper are considered. The model is described by a continuous time three--dimensional autonomous system. Some basic dynamical properties such as Poincar'e mapping, power spectrum and chaotic behaviors are studied. Analysis results show that this system has complex dynamics with some interesting characteristics.

endurance time (et) method is a relatively new performance-based earthquake method for structural evaluation and design. in this method, the structure is subjected to a gradually intensifying accelorogram(s) and its performance is assessed based on the maximum time duration that it can meet the specified performance objectives. using moment-resisting and braced frames which are rehabilitated by...

The two-way continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) systems allow higher key rates and improved transmission distances over standard telecommunication networks in comparison to the one-way CVQKD protocols. To exploit the real potential of two-way CVQKD systems a robust reconciliation technique is needed. It is currently unavailable, which makes it impossible to reach the real perfo...

Semantic reconciliation is an important step in determining logical connectivity between a data source (database) and a data receiver (application). Semantic reconciliation is used to determine if the semantics of the data provided by the source is meaningful to the receiver. In this paper we describe an automatic method to establish such semantic agreement through the use of metadata. This wor...
