Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the world. It is broadly divided into small cell (SCLC, approx. 15% cases) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC, approx. 85% cases). The main histological subtypes of NSCLC are adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, with the presence of specific DNA mutations allowing further molecular stratification. If identified at an early st...

Skin metastasis from lung cancer is an unusual event carrying an ominous prognosis. Three cases with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with skin involvement and rapidly fatal clinical course due to extensive CNS metastasis are reported. The eventual association of skin metastases and a phenotype with "CNS-predilection" or an aggressive phase of NSCLC are discussed.

BACKGROUND Weight loss is a frequently occurring problem in patients with lung cancer due to an increased resting energy expenditure (REE) and a decreased energy intake. The aim of the present study was to compare the metabolic and inflammatory characteristics of patients with small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) and non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). The metabolic parameters of the lung cancer...

BACKGROUND Emerging evidences indicate that dysregulated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are implicated in cancer tumorigenesis and progression. LncRNA ANRIL has been shown to promote the progression of gastric cancer. However, the role of lncRNA ANRIL in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unclear. METHODS Expression of lncRNA ANRIL was analyzed in 87 NSCLC tissues and three lung...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE It has been proved that mTOR was an important signal transduction molecular and protein kinase regulating cell growth and proliferation, and mTOR could activate the downstream protein effector. PTEN could negatively regulate mTOR signal pathway and inhibit its activity. The aim of this study is to detect the mRNA expression levels of mTOR and PTEN gene, which are the ke...

The objective of the current study was to investigate the expression pattern and clinicopathological significance of MTA3 in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The expression profile of MTA3 in NSCLC tissues and adjacent noncancerous lung tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. MTA3 was overexpressed in 62 of 108 (57.4%) human lung cancer samples and correlated with p-TNM s...

Here, we review the molecular mechanism and pharmacokinetics of flavonoids in treatment resistant EGF receptor (EGFR)‐mutated non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) particularly possible mechanism(s) delicaflavone, a biflavonoid extracted from S elaginella doederleinii Hieron . EGFR TK inhibitors (EGFR‐TKI) are ubiquitously used NSCLC bearing mutations. However, patients treated with EGFR‐TKI inevi...

Lung cancer continues to be the most common cause of cancer-related mortality in the United States and other developed countries. The most common subtype is non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Within NSCLC, we are discovering remarkable molecular heterogeneity. Most current actionable mutations have been identified in patients with adenocarcinoma histology, but now new mutations are being disco...
