A new ambient-pressure metastable single-bonded 3D nitrogen allotrope (TrigN) of trigonal symmetry (space group R3[combining macron]) was calculated using density functional theory (DFT). A comprehensive characterization of this material, comprising thermodynamic, elastic, and spectral (vibrational, UV-vis absorption, and nuclear magnetic resonance) properties, was performed. Using high-through...
The activity of a truncated form of Herbaspirillum seropedicae NifA in different genetic backgrounds showed that its regulatory domain is involved in nitrogen control but not in O2 sensitivity or Fe dependence. The model for nitrogen control involving PII could thus apply to the proteobacteria at large. NifA may have a role in controlling ADP-ribosylation of nitrogenase in Azospirillum brasilense.
Nitrogen-doped, porous rutile has been prepared by hydrothermal reaction of TiN in nitric acid, with the nitrogen atoms present in the interstitial sites and in the form of adsorbed nitrate ions. The N-rutile powder exhibits outstanding photocatalytic activity toward degradation of adsorbed methylene blue under visible light irradiation.
one distinct concentration of copper ions was embedded into the silica matrix to xerogel form using copper source cu(no3)2∙3h2o. the xerogel samples were prepared with using hydrolysis and condensation reactions of tetraethyl ortho-silicate (teos) by the sol-gel method. in this investigation, new molar ratio of h2o/teos was determined to be 11.7. also, the necessary amount of tri-hydrated coppe...
Nitrogen often is the limiting nutrient for the growth of algae and phytoplankton in estuaries and surface waters in California. To control cultural eutrophication (i.e., excessive growth of algae and plankton related to anthropogenic sources) regulatory agencies often focus on the control of point source discharges, including municipal wastewater effluent. Recent attempts to control cultural e...

The effects of a nitrogen mustard on both the morphology and several synthetic capacities of embryonic chick skeletal muscle cells in monolayer culture have been examined. Concentrations of nitrogen mustard which profoundly inhibit deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis specifically do not inhibit the development of multinuclearity in the contractile "ribbons" which form rapidly in culture. Nitrogen m...
Maintaining the levels of nitrogen in agricultural fields to ensure crop yield performance is challenging due to the complex dynamics of nitrogen transformation in soil. Nitrogen is mainly taken up by plant roots in the form of nitrate, but it is considered as an environmental pollutant that threatens human and animal health. Therefore, it is necessary to use adsorbent compounds to retain nitra...
In this work a set of experiments was undertaken in a pilot-scale WSP system to determine the importance of organic nitrogen sedimentation on ammonium and total nitrogen removals in maturation ponds and its seasonal variation under British weather conditions, from September 2004 to May 2007. The nitrogen content in collected sediment samples varied from 4.17 to 6.78 percent (dry weight) and cal...
Legumes are able to form a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria called rhizobia. The result of this symbiosis is to form nodules on the plant root, within which the bacteria can convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia that can be used by the plant. Establishment of a successful symbiosis requires the two symbiotic partners to be compatible with each other throughout the p...
