We studied the effects of catalyst introduction methods using poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers on the nickel patterning of polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM)-coated substrates. Three different approaches to palladium catalyst introduction using microcontact printing as the patterning technique were utilized and compared. The catalyst introduction methods are (1) direct catalyst stamping, (2) d...

Ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) have demonstrated great potential in catalysis, and as supercapacitors and adsorbents. Since the introduction of the organic-organic self-assembly approach in 2004/2005 until now, the direct synthesis of OMCs is still limited to the wet processing of phenol-formaldehyde polycondensation, which involves soluble toxic precursors, and acid or alkali catalysts, and...

Ammonia decomposition is often used as an archetypical reaction for predicting new catalytic materials and understanding the very reason of why some reactions are sensitive on material's structure. Core-shell or surface-segregated bimetallic nanoparticles expose outstanding activity for many heterogeneously catalysed reactions but the reasons remain elusive owing to the difficulties in experime...

Aluminium oxide (Al2O3), commonly known as alumina, is a widespread naturally occurring compound that has a broad range of industrial applications. Besides its use as a pigment or abrasive, alumina also plays a vital role as catalyst support for desulfurization or hydrogenation reactions. In the latter case, the active phase on the catalyst often consists of nickel metal nanoparticles. The inte...

In this work, a nickel-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was prepared using a potentiostatic method in 0.1 M acetate buffer solution at pH 4.0 containing 1.0 mM nickel nitrate. Nickel hydroxide nanoparticles were prepared using consecutive potential scanning in 0.1 M NaOH solution. The as-prepared catalyst was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical...

A new approach to the generation of nanoparticle arrays in periodic as well as non-periodic fashions has been discovered based on reduction of oxidized nanoscroll/nanoribbon precursors in the transmission electron microscope (carbothermal reduction) or by hydrogen annealing. Arrays consisting of nickel arsenide nanoparticles of size 3-4 nm have been generated.

Conjugation of aptamers and their corresponding analytes onto plasmonic nanoparticles mediates the 13 formation of nanoparticle assemblies: molecularly bound nanoclusters which cause a measurable change in the 14 colloid’s optical properties. In this paper the optimization of a surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) 15 competitive binding assay is presented utilizing plasmonic ‘target’ and ...

Polyaniline-NiFe2O4 nanocomposites (PANI-NiFe2O4) with different contents of NiFe2O4 (2.5, 5 and 50 wt%) were prepared via in situ chemical oxidation polymerization, while the nanoparticles nickel ferrite were synthesized by sol-gel method. The prepared samples were characterized using some techniques such as Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microsc...

Combination of the surfactant-free nonaqueous sol–gel approach with the microwave technique makes it possible to synthesize Fe3O4, CoFe2O4, MnFe2O4, and NiFe2O4 nanoparticles of about 5–6 nm and with high crystallinity and good morphological uniformity. The synthesis involves the reaction of metal acetates or acetylacetonates as precursors with benzyl alcohol at 170 C under microwave irradiatio...
