Background and Objectives: Bacterial meningitis especially meningococcal meningitis is a serious and sometimes fatal infection . The aim of this study was the determination of meningitis disease by routine and molecular assay s . Materials and Methods : CSF samples were collected from 275 children and agglutination, bacteriological tests were achieved. DNA extraction was done according to p...
neisseria meningitidis is a major causative agent of bacterial septicemia and meningitis in humans. currently, there are no vaccines to prevent disease caused by strains of n.meningitidis serogroup b. the class 1 outer membrane protein (omp) has been named pora which is a cation selective transmembrane protein of 45 kda that forms trimeric pore in the meningococcal outer membrane. pora from ser...
background: there is little information about the prevalence and risk factors for neisseria gonorrhoeae in iran. the pur pose of this study was to determine the prevalence and risk factors of gonococcal infection in women in babol, north of iran. methods: five hundred- fifty married women, who were younger than 45 years, were assessed of aspects of hidden and obvi ous gonococcal infection. a sa...
Neisseria species are gram negative diplococci an important characteristic of these bacteria is resistance against crystal violet. This study was done to investigate the effect of crystal violet on the growth of Neisseria, to observe the outcome of adding this substance in culture media for isolating these organisms, and finally to make a specific medium for isolation of the Nisseria species. ...
The adhC gene from 11 strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae was distinguished from its homologue in Neisseria meningitidis by the presence of a premature stop codon caused by a single base insertion. Mutational analysis showed that NADH S-nitrosoglutathione oxidoreductase activity was associated with adhC in Neisseria meningitidis but not in Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Identical beta-lactamase-encoding (TEM-1) plasmids were found in two different clinical Neisseria meningitidis strains. They were completely sequenced (5,597 bp) and designated pAB6. The plasmid is almost identical to Neisseria gonorrhoeae plasmid pJD5 (5,599 kb) and may have been picked up from a gonococcus in vivo.
Ninety-eight per cent of laboratory isolates of Neisseria gonorrhoeae from a veneral disease clinic gave positive reactions with a gonococcal coagglutination test. The prototype reagent, however, was poor at distinguishing between different species of the genus Neisseria: 75% of strains of Neisseria meningitidis and 40% of other Neisseria species tested gave positive reactions. None of the orig...
background and objectives: neisseria meningitidis is transmitted from person-to-person. thus, close contact with a healthy carrier can facilitate the spread of the bacteria and lead to life-threatening meningococcal disease. the aim of this study was to identify oropharyngeal carriers of n. meningitidis in volunteers preparing for military service before vaccination. materials and methods: in a...
background: neisseria meninigitidis is one of the most frequently encountered microorganisms associated with central nervous system infections. the aim of this study was to evaluate a pcr-based assay for specific and rapid detection of n. meninigitidis in csf specimens. methods : since april 2002 to july 2006, 130 csf specimens were collected from patients suspected of having bacterial mening...
