Acute myocardial infarction is a frequent and disabling disease. Ischemic postconditioning, consisting of repeated brief cycles of ischemia-reperfusion performed immediately after reperfusion following a prolonged ischemic insult, dramatically reduces infarct size in experimental models. A recent clinical study demonstrated that repeated brief episodes of inflation-deflation of the angioplasty ...

BACKGROUND Ischaemic preconditioning reduces myocardial infarct size in animal models. Clinical data suggest that episodes of angina immediately before acute myocardial infarction may be associated with smaller infarct size in man. However, it is unclear whether ischaemic episodes preceding acute myocardial infarction also affect contractile recovery in patients. OBJECTIVE In this study we in...

We studied 89 patients with first time myocardial infarction and treated with primary PCI. There was only a weak correlation between ischemia duration and final myocardial scar size measured with ceMRI six weeks later. Other factors like anterior infarction, a patent artery pre-PCI and effects of reperfusion injury may have had greater influence on infarct size than time-totreatment per se.

background: more than half of myocardial infracted (mi) patients have no conventional risk factors. regarding the belief that opium addiction has a protective effect on heart diseases, addiction prevalence has unfortunately increased in recent years. this study was conducted to investigate the effect of opium addiction on patients with acute myocardial infarction. methods: this case-control stu...

conclusions these findings strongly suggest the diagnosis of delayed post-infarction pericarditis, or dressler syndrome, a rare disease in the age of reperfusion therapy. although rare, it is a syndrome that must be considered in the differential diagnosis of chest pain. case presentation a 46-year-old male was admitted to the emergency department due to pleuritic chest pain. two weeks before t...

to improve the specificity of biochemical markers of myocardial infarction (mi) a method to measure cardiac troponin-i (ctn-i) was developed. ctn-i is a protein unique to cardiac muscle and is released after mi. consecutive 150 patients admitted to the coronary care unit was studied. value of ctn-i was determined in all samples. ctn-i concentration in the mi patients group was increased compare...

background: early clinical investigations indicate that an infusion of autologous bone-marrow cells into the infarct-related coronary artery is feasible after acute myocardial infarction. there is increasing evidence that cell transplantation may improve the perfusion and contractile function of the ischemic myocardium . the present study reports primarily the safety of intracoronary bone marro...

background: coronary artery disease is known as the main cause of death in industrialized countries. relation between this disease and some infections such as helicobacter pylori (h.pylori) has been shown in several studies. the purpose of this study was to dermine the relationship between hypylori and mycardical infarctions. methods: seventy-three myocardial infarction patients and 78 individu...

to evaluate the prognostic significance of clinicopathological measurement in the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (mi) in sheep, acute mi was induced by ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery (lad). for this purpose, twenty four healthy sheep were divided into the sham-operated or control group (group i, thoracotomy without mi) and the experimental group (group ii, with m...

background and aims: cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality among men and women so that the difference in acute myocardial infarction (ami) symptoms between men and women can affect diagnosis and time of decision making for treatment and consequently disease outcomes. therefore, knowledge of different symptoms affects the prognosis of the disease according to the gender. this s...
