In this study, the chemical composition of the essential oils (EOs) extracted from aerial parts of native populations of Origanum vulgare ssp. vulgare from Iran was compared by GC and GC/MS. Plants were collected at bloom stage from their natural habitats located in Kaleybar, Sabalan, Meshkin Shahr and Chalus regions, respectively from East Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Ardabil and Mazandaran provinces....

The composition of the essential oil from leaves of Skimmia laureola was determined by GC and GC-MS. Twenty-eight components were identified, accounting for 93.9% of the total oil. The oil is mainly composed of monoterpenes (93.5%), of which monoterpene hydrocarbons and oxygenated monoterpenes represent 11.0% and 82.5%, respectively. Sesquiterpenes constitute only 0.3% of the total oil. Linalyl...

The effect of different photon flux densities (PFD) and temperatures on the relative growth rate (RGR) and the concentration of three halogenated monoterpenes in samples of Plocamium cartilagineum L.( Dixon), a marine alga (Rhodophyceae), were studied. The highest RGR (22.8 +/- 0.04 d(-1)) was obtained at 15 degreebC and 41 ,mol m(-2) s)(-1) of PFD and the lowest (18.0 +/- 0.12 d(-1)) was obtai...

The monoterpene perillyl alcohol (POH) is a naturally occurring anti-cancer compound which is effective against a variety of rodent organ-specific tumor models. To establish the molecular mechanisms of POH and its major metabolite perillic acid (PA) as anti-proliferative agents, their effects on cell proliferation, cell cycle and cell cycle regulatory proteins were studied in HCT 116 human colo...
