the kidney of camel is known to play a vital role in water conservation through the production of highly concentrated urine that may predispose animal to varieties of renal dysfunction. in camels renal disorders have received lesser attention in comparison with other animals, thus there is shortage of information in this area. the present study was conducted on 100 slaughtered camels (camelus d...

histoid leprosy (hl) is a rare variant of lepromatous leprosy, occurring in long-standing cases, mostly in a background of acquired drug resistance. patients usually present with sudden onset multiple nodules and plaques, most often involving the skin and subcutaneous tissue of trunk and lower limbs. here we report an unusual case of de novo (without any history of prior anti-leprotic therapy) ...

The principal aim of this chapter is to provide an illustrated review of the neuropathologic features of common and recently emerging central nervous system (CNS) viral diseases. An overview of the histopathologic features common to most viral infections of the central nervous system will be provided. This will be followed by a description of the gross and microscopic findings characteristic of...

Despite the increasing knowledge about the genetic alterations and molecular pathways involved in gliomas, few studies have investigated the association between the gene expression profiles (GEP) and both cytogenetics and histopathology of gliomas. Here, we analyzed the GEP (U133Plus2.0 chip) of 40 gliomas (35 astrocytic tumors, 3 oligodendrogliomas, and 2 mixed tumors) and their association wi...

The first case of spongiform encephalopathy in a zebu (Bos indicus) was identified in a zoo in Switzerland. Although histopathologic and immunohistochemical analyses of the central nervous system indicated a diagnosis of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), molecular typing showed some features different from those of BSE in cattle (B. taurus).

We report a fatal case of disseminated acanthamebiasis caused by Acanthamoeba lenticulata (genotype T5) in a 39-year-old heart transplant recipient. The diagnosis was based on skin histopathologic results and confirmed by isolation of the ameba from involved skin and molecular analysis of a partial 18S rRNA gene sequence (DF3).

The full complement of molecular pathways contributing to the pathogenesis of Parkinson disease (PD) remains unknown. Here we address this issue by taking a broad approach, beginning by using functional MRI to identify brainstem regions differentially affected and resistant to the disease. Relying on these imaging findings, we then profiled gene expression levels from postmortem brainstem regio...

Dinoflagellates belonging to the Perkinsus genus are OIE (World Organization for animal Health)-listed pathogens extremely virulent clams and oysters in many marine ecosystems throughout world. During monitoring activities of Mediterranean mussel ( Mytilus galloprovincialis ) Campania region (Italy), presence typical trophozoites sp. was observed mussels from farms natural banks. Simultaneously...
