The quality of Al2O3-TiO2 mixed oxides produced in continuous mode by using two original rapid mixers (the impinging jets and the sliding surface mixing device) as precipitation reactors is compared with one obtained by a standard stirred tank. The properties of agglomerate particles strongly depend on the operating conditions and particularly on the type of precipitator used for their production.
Transition metal (M) oxides with MO2 triangular layers demonstrate a variety of physical properties depending on the metal oxidation states. In the known compounds, metal oxidation states are limited to either 3+ or mixed-valent 3+/4+. Mixed-valent MnO(x) (1 < x < 2) was selectively synthesized by chemically etching MnO and Mn2O3 with ceric ammonium nitrate. The obtained MnO(x) exhibited greatly enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) as compared to the corresponding pristine oxides.
