PURPOSE The goal of this study was to examine the effects of low power microwave radiation (<10 mW/cm2) on the proliferation of cultured rabbit lens epithelial cells (RLEC). METHODS Cultured RLEC were exposed to continuous microwave radiation at a frequency of 2,450 MHz and power densities of 0.10, 0.25, 0.50, 1.00, and 2.00 mW/cm2 for 8 h. Cell morphologic changes were observed under a phase...
A novel imaging approach utilizing microwave scattering was proposed in order to analyze various properties of bone. Microwave frequencies of 900 MHz, 1 GHz, and 2.4 GHz were used during this study. This investigation’s objectives were to emphasize characteristics of abnormalities in human bones and to detect fine fractures through contrasts in bone density. The finite element method (FEM) pres...
We here report on the implementation of a microwave lens for neutral polar molecules suitable to focus molecules in both low-field-seeking and high-field-seeking states. By using the TE{11m} modes of a 12 cm long cylindrically symmetric microwave resonator, Stark-decelerated ammonia molecules are transversally confined. We investigate the focusing properties of this microwave lens as a function...
In this study, the effects of microwave drying power on drying kinetics, effective moisture diffusivity, and specific energy consumption of olive pomace were studied at three different microwave power levels of 170, 360 and 510 W. Increasing microwave power resulted in a considerable decrease in drying time. The experimental data for moisture loss was converted to moisture ratios and fitted to ...
Microwave radiation is widely used for heating tissues in hyperthermia or diathermy medical treatments. Usually, in such treatments, the tissue’s temperature is used as feedback for the microwave generator power control and consequently, for the control of the whole heating process. The temperature can be measured by contact, or non-contact (IR or MW radiometry), techniques. Unfortunately, in b...
A dynamic bias technology is proposed to meet linearity standards at high-power levels and simultaneously reduce power consumption at low-power output levels for a mobile WiMAX terminal application. The dynamic bias circuit induces voltage via the current from the source port of the final active stage, and makes the bias operate the PA dynamically as the output power level is increased. The fab...
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Disinfection of prostheses with chemical solutions has deleterious effects on dentures. The appropriate power setting of microwave for disinfection, without affecting denture base properties, is a controversy. PURPOSE To evaluate and compare the effect of simulated microwave disinfection at a recommended power setting on the mechanical properties of three denture base hea...
High power RF systems have increasing potential for application by the Army. High power RF, or high power microwave (HPM), systems can disrupt or disable enemy communications and weapons systems. Fundamental constraints on the availability of HPM sources to the war fighter are the size and portability. Traditional pulsed power systems capable of producing high power RF signals are massive and s...
An improved power re-use technique is introduced for application to outphased microwave power amplifiers. The technique allows a significant portion of the wasted out-of-phase components of the signal to be returned to the power supply, resulting in substantial improvements in overall power-amplifier efficiency. A peak re-use RF-to-DC efficiency of 63% was obtained at 1.96 GHz.
