We characterize graphs that have intersection representations using unit intervals with open or closed ends such that all ends of the intervals are integral in terms of infinitely many minimal forbidden induced subgraphs. Furthermore, we provide a quadratic-time algorithm that decides if a given interval graph admits such an intersection representation.

An undirected graph G = (V, E) is a probe split graph if its vertex set can be partitioned into two sets, N (nonprobes) and P (probes) where N is independent and there exists E′ ⊆ N ×N such that G′ = (V, E ∪ E′) is a split graph. Recently Chang et al. gave an O(V (V +E)) time recognition algorithm for probe split graphs. In this article we give O(V 2 +V E) time recognition algorithms and charac...

A method for recognition of Persian handwritten digits based on characterization loci and mixture of experts is proposed. This method utilizes the characterization loci, as the main feature. In the classification stage of our proposed method the mixture of experts are applied. This recognition method is applied to Farsi hand-written digits in the HODA database. The experimental results support ...

Recently Postnikov gave a combinatorial description of the cells in a totallynonnegative Grassmannian. These cells correspond to a special class of matroids called positroids. We prove his conjecture that a positroid is exactly an intersection of permuted Schubert matroids. This leads to a combinatorial description of positroids that is easily computable. The main proof is purely combinatorial,...

Secondary phases such as Laves and carbides are formed during the final solidification stages of nickel based superalloy coatings deposited during the gas tungsten arc welding cold wire process. However, when aged at high temperatures, other phases can precipitate in the microstructure, like the γ′′ and δ phases. This work presents a new application and evaluation of artificial intelligent tech...

ANOMALY DETECTION AND MICROSTRUCTURE CHARACTERIZATION IN FIBER REINFORCED CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES Name: Bricker, Stephen E. University of Dayton Advisor: Dr. Russell Hardie Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) have the potential to replace current superalloys being used in hot components of jet engines. CMCs with continuous fiber reinforcement exhibit significant strength retention beyond tempera...

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) enables investigation of the brain microstructure by probing natural barriers to diffusion in tissues. In this work, we propose a novel generative model of the DW signal based on considerations of the tissue microstructure that gives rise to the diffusion attenuation. We consider that the DW signal can be described as the sum of a large number of individual homo...

The optical, mechanical, and microstructural properties of MgF2 single layers grown by ion beam sputtering have been investigated by spectrophotometric measurements, film stress characterization, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy ~XPS!, x-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. The deposition conditions, using fluorine reactive gas or not, have been found to greatly influence the ...
