Lager beers are traditionally made at lower temperatures (6-14 degrees C) than ales (15-25 degrees C). At low temperatures, lager strains (Saccharomyces pastorianus) ferment faster than ale strains (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Two lager and two ale strains had similar maltose transport activities at 20 degrees C, but at 0 degrees C the lager strains had fivefold greater activity. AGT1, MTT1 and ...

• Spindle shaped PbWO 4 nanostructure with enhanced photocatalytic activity was obtained by facile and green sonochemical way for the first time. Maltose as a new capping agent utilized. Sonication time, dose of precursors, power ultrasound waves kind were optimized. The made lead tungstate samples in role visible-light photocatalyst applied to remove organic pollution water. Usage ultrasonic i...

Enterococcus faecium is a gut commensal of humans and animals. In the intestinal tract, E. faecium will have access to a wide variety of carbohydrates, including maltodextrins and maltose, which are the sugars that result from the enzymatic digestion of starch by host-derived and microbial amylases. In this study, we identified the genetic determinants for maltodextrin utilization of E. faecium...

Previous studies have shown that the association of the drug meglumine antimoniate (MA) with β-cyclodextrin can improve its bioavailability by the oral route. In this work, ribose and maltose were investigated for their ability to form mixed or association complexes with MA, release MA and modulate the serum levels of Sb after oral administration in mice. Analysis of the MA/ribose composition b...

F or a time, membrane proteins proved intractable to X-ray crystallography. There were difficulties of overexpression and purification, multiple choices of solubilizing detergent that could only be decided by trial and error, unwillingness to crystallize, and often, poor diffraction from resultant crystals. However, the tide now seems to be turning, and in PNAS, Oldham and Chen (1) present an X...

Six types of wheat flour with different degrees damaged starch were used to prepare dough by adding 3.0 times the amount water that on a weight basis. The maltose formed during rest at 60 °C increased sharply early stage and then asymptotically approached constant value, M∞. initial M0 was proportional degree starch, but M∞ independent 0.291 ± 0.015 g maltose/g (mean S.D.). possible be formed, ...

The soluble quinoprotein glucose dehydrogenase oxidizes glucose, maltose and a variety of other monosaccharides and disaccharides to the corresponding lactones. An efficient microseeding protocol is reported to produce crystals of three variants that display reduced activity towards maltose. Similar cross-seeding protocols to grow crystals of homologues from Escherichia coli and Streptomyces co...

The fermentation pattern of Lactococcus lactis with altered activities of the las enzymes was examined on maltose. The wild type converted 65% of the maltose to mixed acids. An increase in phosphofructokinase or lactate dehydrogenase expression shifted the fermentation towards homolactic fermentation, and with a high level of expression of the las operon the fermentation was homolactic.

The peptidoglycan recognition protein PGRP-S is an innate immunity molecule that specifically interacts with microbial peptidoglycans and other pathogen-associated molecular patterns. We report here two structures of the unique tetrameric camel PGRP-S (CPGRP-S) complexed with (i) muramyl dipeptide (MDP) at 2.5 Å resolution and (ii) GlcNAc and β-maltose at 1.7Å resolution. The binding studies ca...
