The SPM is the most frequent malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) that exhibits behavior characterized by the tendency to invasion of adjacent tissue and metastatic spread early. One of its variants is the atypical fibroxanthoma (FA). OBJECTIVE  To describe a case of probable recurre...

The origin of histiocyte-like cells in malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) remains controversial. To determine whether histiocyte-like cells and multinucleated giant cells show reactive or neoplastic proliferation, we transplanted human storiform-pleomorphic MFH to nude mice and investigated the origin of histiocyte-like cells using the DNA in situ hybridization (ISH) system. In addition, we a...

BACKGROUND Amphiregulin is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) system and a potent mitogen for various epithelial tissues. Little information, however, is currently available on the amphiregulin and EGF receptor (EGF-R) expression in mesenchymal malignancies of a fibrohistiocytic origin including malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH). MATERIALS AND METHODS We investigated the amphire...

Aneurysmal benign fibrous histiocytoma is an uncommon pathologic variant of dermatofibroma. In addition to the features of a typical dermatofibroma, it has large cleft-like or cavernous blood-filled spaces with numerous hemosiderin pigments. It should be differentiated from angiomatoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma, malignant melanoma, and vascular tumors such as Kaposi's sarcoma and angiosarc...

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a rare neoplasm composed of fibroblasts and histiocytes. It assumes several histologic forms, which account for its various names and the difficulty in its diagnosis and classification. A case thought to be the sixth malignant fibrous histiocytoma involving the larynx is presented. The treatment of choice is wide excision with close follow-up examination.

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a rare neoplasm exhibiting a propensity for aggressive clinical behavior. Effective treatment modality is surgical resection with wide margins, but its rate of recurrence and metastasis is still high. Early detection and complete excision of the tumor is necessary. A MFH of the occipital developed in a 51-year-old woman eight years after surgery and radia...
