The migration of a rigid sphere in a two-dimensional unidirectional shear flow of a second-order fluid was considered by Ho & Leal (1976). It was found that the sphere would migrate in the direction of decreasing absolute shear rate. The present paper extends the previous results to a general quadratic flow, and also considers the case of a spherical drop.
Gravier et al. proved [S. Gravier, M. Mollard, Ch. Payan, On the existence of three-dimensional tiling in the Lee metric, European J. Combin. 19 (1998) 567–572] that there is no tiling of the three-dimensional space R3 with Lee spheres of radius at least 2. In particular, this verifies the Golomb–Welch conjecture for n = 3. In a 2014 report on adolescent mental health outcomes in the Moving to Opportunity for Fair Housing Demonstration (MTO), Kessler et al. reported that, at 10- to 15-year follow-up, boys from households randomized to an experimental housing voucher intervention experienced 12-month prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at several times the rate of boys from control households. We re...
As many as one in five primary care patients have significant mental health problems, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In national probability samples in the U.S., the lifetime prevalence of PTSD is estimated at 6.8% (Kessler et al., 2005) and current prevalence in the past 12 months at 3.5% (Kessler et al., 2005). PTSD is related to higher levels of health-related problems (Schn...

1. Research Overview Since Dr. Lee joined the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University in 2007, he and his research team have made significant efforts to develop novel control approaches to the large-scale complex systems. These endeavors are in particular from the multidisciplinary perspective, recognizing that such an approach is capable of producing the simple yet effective tech...
In 1952, Lee and Yang published two important papers [1, 2] in statistical mechanics. They gave us a new way of looking at the nature of phase transitions, and suggested that we can regard partition functions as functions of external fields (in the case of Ising model, this would be magnetic fields), whose domains can be extended to the complex plane. In particular, they proved a series of Lee-...
