we report a case of human nasal myiasis caused by flower fly larva in a 14-year-old rural girl in central province of iran. entomological studies on larva showed the larva as eristalis tenax which is a rarely cause of nasal myiasis. this is the first reported case of e. tenax larva causing human nasal myiasis in iran.

Cutaneous larva migrans is a self-limited cutaneous eruption caused by larva of roundworms that do not normally parasitize humans. Ankylostoma brazielensis, the dog and cat hookworm, is the most common agent. The disease is found in tropical and subtropical regions and may be seen in travelers from these regions. We report a case of a 37-year-old Iranian man who had cutaneous larva migrans afte...

OBJECTIVE Eosinophils reside in the colonic mucosa and increase significantly during disease. Although a number of studies have suggested that eosinophils contribute to the pathogenesis of GI inflammation, the expanding scope of eosinophil-mediated activities indicate that they also regulate local immune responses and modulate tissue inflammation. We sought to define the impact of eosinophils t...

Tissue factor (TF) is the major initiator of blood coagulation, and a mediator of inflammation, angiogenesis, and carcinogenesis. According to recent evidence, preformed TF and inducible expression of the protein is observed in several blood components. TF is apparently constitutively expressed on circulating microparticles, and can be exposed within minutes on the cell membrane of activated eo...

Eosinophils are differentiated granulocytes that are recruited from the bone marrow to sites of inflammation via the vascular system. Allergic asthma is characterized by the presence of large numbers of eosinophils in the lungs and airways. Due to their capacity to rapidly release inflammatory mediators such as cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, and cytotoxic granule proteins upon stimulati...

a 28-year-old male farmer presented with a chief complaint of itching and extreme dis-comfort on the entire maxillary and mandibular gingivae. he was diagnosed with gingival myiasis and scaling was performed on both jaws. however because of the multiple larvae, complete removal with simple curettage and scaling was not feasible, therefore flap sur-gery was performed on the maxilla. one week lat...

We have reported previously that HIV-TAT-dominant negative (dn) Ras inhibits eosinophil adhesion to ICAM-1 after activation by IL-5 and eotaxin. In this study, we evaluated the role of Ras in Ag-induced airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness by i.p. administration into mice of dnRas, which was fused to an HIV-TAT protein transduction domain (TAT-dnRas). Uptake of TAT-dnRas (t(1/2) = 12 h) ...
