Introduction Methotrexate (MTX) is recommended for children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) with persistent oligoarticular course with high disease activity and features of poor prognosis or if they failed intraarticular glucocorticoid steroid injections following the 2011 ACR recommendations for the treatment of JIA. To date efficacy and safety of MTX for this JIA category have not be...
INTRODUCTION Interferon alpha (IFN-α) has a complex role in autoimmunity, in that it may both enhance and prevent inflammation. We have previously shown that the presence of IFN-α at sensitization protects against subsequent antigen-triggered arthritis. To understand this tolerogenic mechanism, we performed a descriptive, hypothesis-generating study of cellular and humoral responses associated ...
BACKGROUND The sacroiliac joint is a diarthrodial synovial joint with abundant innervation and capability of being a source of low back pain and referred pain in the lower extremity. There are no definite historical, physical, or radiological features to provide definite diagnosis of sacroiliac joint pain, although many authors have advocated provocational maneuvers to suggest sacroiliac joint ...
BACKGROUND The amount of patients referred with longstanding, non-arthritic hip pain is increasing, as are the treatment options. Left untreated hip dysplasia, acetabular retroversion and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) may lead to osteoarthritis (OA). Finding the right treatment option for the right patient can be challenging in patients with non-arthritic hip pain. PURPOSE The purpose of...
A case of septic arthritis of the knee caused by Pseudomonas cepacia following an intraarticular corticosteroid injection in a patient with a history of osteoarthritis is presented. This is the second report of this agent causing infection in a diarthrodial joint, which proved difficult to eradicate despite in vitro antibiotic sensitivity.
Thirteen children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) were treated with intraarticular steroid injection of triamcilone acetonide as a day care procedure. More than half (53.4%) the children were free of pain, limp and NSAID's use, with improvement in functional score at 12 weeks. No side effects were reported during the period of the study.
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) causes joint pain and dysfunction that severely affects the patient’s ability to walk. Arthroscopy combined with intraarticular injection of sodium hyaluronate can slow development knee osteoarthritis, but there is a lack rigorous evidence-based medicine evaluation, it has not been recognized by some scholars at home abroad. This paper analyzed clinical eff...
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and Crohn's disease (CD) are autoimmune disorders with a crosstalk between their pathogenesis such as increased expression of TNF in the target organs. Despite a successful clinical trial with an oral Smad7 antisense oligonucleotide in CD, intraarticular (i.a.) modulation of Smad7 expression has not been performed in rheumatoid joint yet. In this study, contradictory t...
Thirty seven children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) who were treated with one or more intra-articular triamcinolone acetonide (TA) injections were evaluated. Ninety five joints were injected with a total number of 125 injections. Complete remission of the joint inflammation lasting at least 6 months was obtained in 62 of 95 injections (65%). Treatment of the joint contractures was su...
