We introduce -proper interval graphs as interval graphs with interval models in which no interval is properly contained in more than other intervals, and also provide a forbidden induced subgraph characterization of this class of graphs. We initiate a graph-theoretic study of subgraphs of -proper interval graphs with maximum clique size and give an equivalent characterization of these graphs by...
A short proof is given that the graphs with proper interval representations are the same as the graphs with unit interval representations. An graph is an interval graph if its vertices can be assigned intervals on the real line so that vertices are adjacent if and only if the corresponding intervals intersect; such an assignment is an interval representation. When the intervals have the same le...
We describe the missing class of the hierarchy of mixed unit interval graphs, generated by the intersection graphs of closed, open and one type of half-open intervals of the real line. This class lies strictly between unit interval graphs and mixed unit interval graphs. We give a complete characterization of this new class, as well as quadratic-time algorithms that recognize graphs from this cl...
A graph is probe (unit) interval if its vertices can be partitioned into two sets: a set of probe vertices and a set of nonprobe vertices, so that the set of nonprobe vertices is a stable set and it is possible to obtain a (unit) interval graph by adding edges with both endpoints in the set of nonprobe vertices. Probe (unit) interval graphs form a superclass of (unit) interval graphs. Probe int...
We give a linear-time algorithm to compute the cutwidth of threshold graphs, thereby resolving the computational complexity of cutwidth on this graph class. Although our algorithm is simple and intuitive, its correctness proof relies on a series of non-trivial structural results, and turns out to be surprisingly complex. Threshold graphs are a well-studied subclass of interval graphs and of spl...
A bubble model is a 2-dimensional representation of proper interval graphs. We consider proper interval graphs that have bubble models of specific properties. We characterise the maximal such proper interval graphs of bounded clique-width and of bounded linear cliquewidth and the minimal such proper interval graphs whose clique-width and linear cliquewidth exceed the bounds. As a consequence, w...
We study the optimal linear arrangement (OLA) problem on interval graphs. Several linear layout problems that are NP-hard on general graphs are solvable in polynomial time on interval graphs. We prove that, quite surprisingly, optimal linear arrangement of interval graphs is NP-hard. The same result holds for permutation graphs. We present a lower bound and a simple and fast 2-approximation alg...
We first introduce the concept of interval-valued neutrosophic competition graphs. We then discuss certain types, including kcompetition interval-valued neutrosophic graphs, p-competition intervalvalued neutrosophic graphs and m-step interval-valued neutrosophic competition graphs. Moreover, we present the concept of m-step intervalvalued neutrosophic neighbourhood graphs. 2010 AMS Classificati...
Characterisations of interval graphs, comparability graphs, co-comparability graphs, permutation graphs, and split graphs in terms of linear orderings of the vertex set are presented. As an application, it is proved that interval graphs, cocomparability graphs, AT-free graphs, and split graphs have bandwidth bounded by their maximum degree.
