a fundamental aspect of signal processing is filtering. Filtering involves the manipulation of the spectrum of a signal by passing or blocking certain portions of the spectrum, depending on the frequency of those portions. In this paper, Digital filters are designed using frequency specifications. Matlab provides different options for digital filter design, which includes function, calls to fil...

Insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II) is a naturally occurring hormone that exerts neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties in a wide range of neurodegenerative diseases and ageing. Accumulating evidence suggests that the effects of IGF-II in the brain may be explained by its binding to the specific transmembrane receptor, IGFII/M6P receptor (IGF-IIR). However, relatively little is known re...

In this paper we design a Finite-Impulse-Response (FIR) filter to enforce the so-called Strictly-Positive-Realness (SPR) condition in an adaptive Infinite-Impulse-Response (IIR) filtering context. The paper results may then be used to guarantee the convergence of pseudolinear regression IIR adaptive algorithms.

An approach to Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filtering based on genetic algorithms is detailed. This method addresses some of the difficulties encountered with existing methods of adaptation, providing guaranteed filter stability and the ability to search multi-modal error surfaces. Simulation results are presented demonstrating the suitability of this approach to the problem of IIR system id...

This paper presents a real-time, TMS320C40 DSP based implementation of a direct-form adaptive infinite impulse response(IIR) filter using the Least-meansquare(LMS) algorithm. Stability monitoring of the IIR filter during adaptation is discussed. A detailed description of the implementation and hardware platform is also provided.

A new class of two-channel IIR/FIR filter banks was introduced in [1] with half-band IIR analysis filters and FIR synthesis filters. This type of filter bank features very lowcomplexity analysis filters and simultaneously a low overall complexity. In this paper, we consider finite-wordlength effects of these filter banks.

A novel approach is proposed to blindly identify an unknown IIR system. The methods presented are linear in parameters of the unknown system so that many standard recursive algorithms can readily apply. It is also shown in the paper that under a generic condition, any finite order IIR system is identifiable provided the over-sampling ratio is high enough.

This study was designed to assess unique baseline factors associated with subsequent hospitalizations in a cohort of outpatients with cirrhosis. A cohort of 193 patients with cirrhosis was recruited from an outpatient liver disease clinic at a single, tertiary medical center. Comorbidities, prescription medications, liver disease symptoms and severity, and psychiatric and pain symptoms were ass...

Neurodegeneration is a hallmark of the human disease ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) that is caused by mutation of the A-T mutated (ATM) gene. We have analyzed Drosophila melanogaster ATM mutants to determine the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration in A-T. Previously, we found that ATM mutants upregulate the expression of innate immune response (IIR) genes and undergo neurodegeneratio...
