This paper documents the manufacture and testing of a humidity sensor based on a combination of In2O3/SiO. A number of different sensor samples have been produced by thermal deposition and the effect of varying the vacuum pressure has also been investigated. The AC and DC conduction mechanisms have been investigated. From the AC conduction studies, the tunneling conduction mechanism has been ob...

This paper presents an optimal design for a new humidity sensor composed of a dual-resonator oscillator configuration with an operation frequency of 300 MHz, and a polyaniline (PANI) coating deposited along the resonation cavity of the sensing device. To improve the corrosion resistance of the sensor chip, Al/Au electrodes were used to form the SAW resonator. Prior to device fabrication, the co...

Semiconductor gas sensors are essentially not selective to detect a single chemical species in a gaseous mixture and also the response of the sensor in most cases is influenced by the variations of ambient humidity and temperature. One of the solutions is the analysis of the dynamic response of a single sensor with modulated temperature. For the non-linear output signal the fast Fourier transfo...

Nanocrystalline cobalt oxide Co₃O₄ has been prepared by precipitation and subsequent thermal decomposition of a carbonate precursor, and has been characterized in detail using XRD, transmission electron microscopy, and FTIR spectroscopy. The sensory characteristics of the material towards carbon monoxide in the concentration range 6.7-20 ppm have been examined in both dry and humid air. A senso...

We studied the possibility that an air capacitor can be used as a humidity sensor by measuring capacitance change. In order to investigate the possibility, the change of capacitance of an air capacitor due to moisture in air was first considered theoretically, and was then experimentally verified. The capacitance was measured by an LCR impedance meter with a 100-kHz and 1-V ac. The results reve...

The core motivations of deploying a sensor network for a specific application come from the autonomy of sensors, their reduced size, and their capabilities for computing and communicating in a short range. However, many challenges for sensor networks still exist: minimizing energy consumptions, and ensuring the performance of communication that may be affected by many parameters. The work descr...

Ni(SO4)0.3(OH)1.4 nanobelts were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. Humidity sensors based on Ni(SO4)0.3(OH)1.4 nanobelts were fabricated and exhibited high sensitivity and a fast response. They also showed good long-term stability. The high performance could be related to the high surface-to-volume ratio of nanobelts and the chemical composition of Ni(SO4)0.3(OH)1.4.

Despite the many attractive potential uses of ceramic materials as humidity sensors, some unavoidable drawbacks, including toxicity, poor biocompatibility, long response and recovery times, low sensitivity and high hysteresis have stymied the use of these materials in advanced applications. Therefore, in present investigation, we developed a capacitive humidity sensor using lead-free Ca,Mg,Fe,T...

This article presents the design of a system for monitoring temperature and humidity for the prevention of forest fires using wireless sensor networks. An initial study of the causes of Forest Fires, like how to prevent them is necessary have a clear idea of how to implement a valid network design that is capable of detecting possible changes in the environment, in that way we can prevent a dis...

Silk cocoon membrane (SCM) is an insect engineered structure. We studied the electrical properties of mulberry (Bombyx mori) and non-mulberry (Tussar, Antheraea mylitta) SCM. When dry, SCM behaves like an insulator. On absorbing moisture, it generates electrical current, which is modulated by temperature. The current flowing across the SCM is possibly ionic and protonic in nature. We exploited ...
