Anatomical arterial vascular supply to the liver is varied [1]. Establishing the exact variant of this blood supply is important before pancreatic surgery. Identifying the exact vascular anatomy may help in decision-making during surgery. In 1955, Michels [2] published a study on hepatic arterial anatomy which was based on 200 autopsies. The classification was revised in 1966 by Michels and the...

The effects of the nitric oxide (NO) synthase inhibitor NG-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) and the NO donor 3-morpholinosydnonimine (SIN-1) were tested in 18 endotoxic dogs. L-NMMA infusion (10 mg . kg-1 . h-1) increased arterial and pulmonary artery pressures and systemic and pulmonary vascular resistances but decreased cardiac index, left ventricular stroke work index, and blood flow to the he...

The routine dissection of a male body revealed multiple anatomical variations of the celiac trunk and hepatic artery vascularization. The origin of the celiac trunk was on the left side of the abdominal aorta, next to the T12-L1 intervertebral disk. The celiac trunk gave off five branches: the left inferior phrenic artery, the left gastric artery, the accessory right hepatic artery, the common ...

The uptake of (125)I albumin microaggregates (U-(125)I-AMA) from portal blood, during a single passage through the hepatic reticuloendothelial system, has been found to be generally decreased in cirrhosis. To investigate if a similar phenomenon occurs for the colloid flowing through the hepatic artery, the U-(125)I-AMA was first calculated in normal dogs after injection of a mixture of (51)Cr r...

Obstructive jaundice by vascular compression is extremely rare. Luttwak and Schwartz first described jaundice due to an obstruction of the common hepatic duct by an aberrant artery.1 Compression of extrahepatic bile duct (EBD) by right hepatic artery was defined as right hepatic artery syndrome. We present here a rare case of asymptomatic biliary obstruction due to compression of the common bil...

BACKGROUND Pregnancy induced hypertension results from defective trophoblast invasion and increased umbilical artery resistance which in turn results in decreased blood supply to the placenta and hence to the foetus. This arterial resistance varies in different cases of PIH thus causing variable effects on placenta and foetus. The objective of this study was to study the morpho-metric changes i...

We herein report a case of hemobilia caused by a hepatic artery aneurysm. A 40-year-old male patient with a history of Behçet's disease with a thrombus hanging out of the papilla of Vater had a large hepatic aneurysm in angiography. The hepatic artery feeding the aneurysm was embolized. Endovascular treatment can treat patients with hepatic artery aneurysms caused by Behçet's disease.

We evaluated the hypothesis that venous congestion (increased venous volume), as reflected by venous hypertension (increased venous pressure), can arise when the right ventricle is unable to elevate the pulmonary arterial pressure sufficiently to propel the cardiac output through an anatomically inadequate or inappropriately constricted pulmonary vasculature. Changes in venous pressure were eva...

Anatomical variations of hepatic arteries may be problematic in pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). We experienced pancreatic head cancer in a patient with rare variation of hepatic artery and performed PD successfully with the resection of this artery. A 75-year-old woman showed pancreatic head tumor on CT. Preoperative CT detected rare variation of hepatic artery; posterior segmental branch of righ...
