Magnetoencephalography (MEG) non-invasively measures the electromagnetic signals induced by brain activities. It can provide spatiotemporal brain activation imaging with high temporal resolution to facilitate functional brain research in both clinical and basic neuroscience fields. In this thesis, we propose novel spatial filtering techniques for statistical mapping of neuronal sources as well ...

Observable lip movements of the speaker influence perception of auditory speech. A classical example of this influence is reported by listeners who perceive an illusory (cross-modal) speech sound (McGurk-effect) when presented with incongruent audio-visual (AV) speech stimuli. Recent neuroimaging studies of AV speech perception accentuate the role of frontal, parietal, and the integrative brain...

Brain herniation was induced in a rat model by expansion of a balloon in the epidural space. Somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) from median nerve stimulation were recorded on the cranium and analyzed with spectral coherence algorithm. Post-experimental MRI evaluation of the brains was correlated to coherence analysis results.

PURPOSE This study examines whether magnetoencephalographic (MEG) coherence imaging is more sensitive than the standard single equivalent dipole (ECD) model in lateralizing the site of epileptogenicity in patients with drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). METHODS An archival review of ECD MEG analyses of 30 presurgical patients with TLE was undertaken with data extracted subsequently ...

In fetuses with complex congenital heart disease (CHD), impaired brain growth and development starts in utero. A interplay between heart, brain, body placenta takes place the second third trimesters of pregnancy. Altered fetal cardiovascular hemodynamics due to differnt types CHD lead altered cerebral, placental perfusion, all factors contributing maturational delay development. Impaired cerebr...

Early adverse life events (EALs) increase susceptibility to depression and impair cognitive performance, but the physiological mechanisms are still unclear. The target of this article is clarify impact childhood experiences on emotional performance from perspective heart–brain axis. We used Repeatable Battery for Assessment Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) test function Childhood Trauma Questi...

Inter- and intrahemispheric EEG coherence was studied in 4 subjects with agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC) and in 4 matched controls through different states of the sleep/wakefulness cycle. Interhemispheric coherence was calculated between homologous prefrontal, frontal, central, parietal and occipital electrode pairs whereas intrahemispheric coherence was calculated between all adjacent, u...

Heart rate variability biofeedback (HRV-BF) is frequently used for stress management. Recently, virtual reality technology has gained attention delivery, promising higher immersion, motivation, and than classical screens. However, the effects of different technologies breathing techniques are not yet understood. In this study, 107 healthy participants completed a session in one four conditions:...
