in this paper, a new formula is applied for the calculation of gravity anomalies from a cylinder model representing a geological body. compared to conventional methods, this new development allows the cylinder to be freely oriented in space. 38 gravity forward models are produced each of which anomaly attributes are calculated. then a linear relationship is established between attributes and so...

I present several simple figures to illustrate cosmology and structure formation in a nutshell. Then I discuss the following argument: if we assume that ΩΛ = 0 then the CMB results favor high Ωm while the supernova results favor low Ωm. This large inconsistency is strong evidence for the incorrectness of the ΩΛ = 0 assumption. Finally I discuss recent CMB results on the slope and normalization ...

What is consciousness? Conventional approaches see it as an emergent property of complex interactions among individual neurons; however these approaches fail to address enigmatic features of consciousness. Accordingly, some philosophers have contended that "qualia," or an experiential medium from which consciousness is derived, exists as a fundamental component of reality. Whitehead, for exampl...

Results of three problems are summarized in this contribution. Each involves the fundamental capillary instability of an interfacial bridge and is an extension of previous work. The first two problems concern equilibrium shapes of liquid bridges near the stability boundary corresponding to maximum length (PlateauRayleigh limit). For the first, a previously formulated nonlinear theory to account...

We study through numerical simulation the spherical collapse of isothermal gas in Newtonian gravity. We observe a critical behavior which occurs at the threshold of gravitational instability leading to core formation. This was predicted in a previous work by two of the present authors. We describe it in detail in this work. For a given initial density profile, we find a critical temperature T ,...

The semi-classical collapse, including lowest order back-reaction, of a thin shell of self-gravitating quantized matter is illustrated. The conditions for which selfgravitating matter forms a thin shell are first discussed and an effective Lagrangian for such matter is obtained. The matter-gravity system is then quantized, the semiclassical limit for gravitation is taken and the method of adiab...

The ability to predict the resistance of reinforced concrete (RC) structures progressive collapse as a result an interior column removal has become need in structural design. In general, three mechanisms characterize structure collapse, flexural action, compressive arch and tension catenary action. objective this study is investigate effects floor system configurations on collapse-resistance RC...

In this paper, the gravitational collapse of spherical interstellar clouds is discussed based on hydrodynamical simulations. The evolution is divided into two phases: former runaway collapse phase, in which the central density increases greatly on a nite time scale, and later contraction, associated with accretion onto a newborn star. The initial density distribution is expressed using a ratio ...

There are known models of spherical gravitational collapse in which the collapse ends in a naked shell-focusing singularity for some initial data. If a massless scalar field is quantized on the classical background provided by such a star, it is found that the outgoing quantum flux of the scalar field diverges in the approach to the Cauchy horizon. In this paper we provide an interpretation for...

We present spherically symmetric black hole solutions for Einstein gravity coupled to anisotropic matter. We show that these black holes have arbitrarily short hair, and argue for stability by showing that they can arise from dynamical collapse. We also show that a recent ‘no short hair’ theorem does not apply to these solutions. Pacs numbers: 04.20.Jb, 04.40.Nr, 04.70.Bw Typeset using REVTEX
