Here we demonstrate the in situ formation of ultra-small gold nanoparticles (<2 nm) finely dispersed on a binary solid carrier, i.e. a mesoporous SiO2 coated graphene oxide (GO) nanosheet. The as-synthesized Au-SiO2-GO composite has shown high catalytic activity and reusability for chemical reactions under mild conditions.

A simple strategy for preparation of reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/TiO2 hybrid thin films was developed by UV-assisted incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) onto RGO films. The UV-assisted incorporation of TiO2 NPs onto RGO films makes the hybrid films stable against prolonged exposure to UV light without the decrease of their conductivity and transparency.

The highly reduced graphene oxide using solvated electrons as reductive agents shows low defects and well dispersion that are vital as the support of Pt nanoparticles in direct methanol electro-oxidation. The electrochemical experiments demonstrate that the Pt/RGO composites not only greatly enhance the catalytic activity but also dramatically improve the durability of the catalyst.
