In 1960 pathologist Robert Gorlin and dermatologist W Goltz from the University of Minnesota, United States; provided basis for diagnosing syndrome, establishing basal cells carcinomas, keratocysts, skeletal malformations as primary criteria syndrome
The effect of the Eureka Spring (ES) appliance was investigated on 37 consecutively treated, noncompliant patients with bilateral Class II malocclusions. Lateral cephalographs were taken at the start of orthodontic treatment (T1), at insertion of the ES (T2), and at removal of the ES (T3). The average treatment interval between T2 and T3 was four months. The Class II correction occurred almost ...
Pyknodysostosis is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by the post natal onset of short limbs, short stature, and generalized hyperostosis along with acro-osteolysis with sclerosis of the terminal phalanges, a feature that is considered essentially pathognomonic. Other features include persistence of fontanelles, delayed closure of sutures, wormian bones, absence of frontal sinuse...
Elliptical Fourier functions (EFF) were generated for the boundary outline of the mandibular form in 24 non-orthodontic growth study subjects at 9, 11, 13, and 15 years of age. The mean residual fit (observed versus predicted points) of the mandibular form was 0.11 mm, with a range from 0.09 to 0.14 mm, suggesting an accurate fit. The mean plot for each of the four age groups was area standardi...
Population genetic and comparative analyses in diverse taxa have shown that numerous genes involved in reproduction are adaptively evolving. Two genes involved in germline stem cell regulation, bag of marbles (bam) and benign gonial cell neoplasm (bgcn), have been shown previously to experience recurrent, adaptive evolution in both Drosophila melanogaster and D. simulans. Here we report a popul...
Dynein light chain 1 functions in somatic cyst cells regulate spermatogonial divisions in Drosophila
Stem cell progeny often undergo transit amplifying divisions before differentiation. In Drosophila, a spermatogonial precursor divides four times within an enclosure formed by two somatic-origin cyst cells, before differentiating into spermatocytes. Although germline and cyst cell-intrinsic factors are known to regulate these divisions, the mechanistic details are unclear. Here, we show that lo...
Forty-five patients with mandibular retrognathism treated by surgical mandibular advancement by sagittal split osteotomies were evaluated cephalometrically before treatment at the intermaxillary fixation release, and 6 months postoperatively. The treatment resulted in appreciable improvement of the mandibular retrognathism, and the facial morphology was changed positively toward normal values. ...
