This paper addresses the reconstruction of canal surfaces from single images. A canal surface is obtained as the envelope of a family of spheres of constant radius, whose center is swept along a space curve, called axis. Previous studies either used approximate relationships (quasi-invariants), or they addressed the recognition based on a geometric model. In this paper we show that, under broad...

We discuss the problem of geometric design of curved ducts with variable crosssection by transfinite interpolation with integro-differential constraints. This work is a contribution to a research program including numerical simulation and preliminary design of an experimental apparatus for studying fluid-dynamics of air in internal combustion engines of new conception. The proposed geometric mo...

The random walk with choice is a well known variation to the random walk that first selects a subset of d neighbours nodes and then decides to move to the node which maximizes the value of a certain metric; this metric captures the number of (past) visits of the walk to the node. In this paper we propose an enhancement to the random walk with choice by considering a new metric that captures not...

The conventional wisdom expressed at several recent joint conferences and workshops on algebraic geometry and geometric modeling – Algebraic Geometry and Geometric Modeling 2002, Vilnius, Lithuania, The MSRI Workshop on Real Algebraic Geometry in Applications, Berkeley, 2004, and Algebraic Geometry and Geometric Modeling 2004, Nice, France – is that algebraic geometry has much to offer geometri...

This paper presents an automatic method for designing conformal cooling circuit, which is an essential component that directly affects the quality and timing for the products fabricated by rapid tooling. To reduce the time of cooling and control the uniformity of temperature and volumetric shrinkage, industry expects to have cooling channels that are conformal to the shape of products. We achie...

We argue that all evidences point towards a finite non-vanishing zero momentum renormalised lattice gluon propagator in the infinite volume limit. We argue that different simulations with different lattice setups end-up with fairly compatible results for the gluon propagator at zero momentum , with different positive slopes as a function of the inverse volume.

Realistic image synthesis research involves the simulation of visible light propagation within an environment with a view to computing an image that evokes a similar visual response to that perceived by an observer of that environment. This has involved the use of both sophisticated camera response and human visual system response models. In this paper we investigate the application of inverteb...

Anti)-/ferromagnetic Heisenberg spin models arise from discretization of LandauLifshitz models in micromagnetic modelling. In many applications it is essential to study the behavior of the system at a fixed temperature. A formulation for thermostatted spin dynamics was given by Bulgac and Kusnetsov [5], which incorporates a complicated nonlinear dissipation/driving term while preserving spin le...

We present two visual servoing controllers (pose-based and image-based) enabling mobile robots with a fixed pinhole camera to reach and follow a continuous path drawn on the ground. The first contribution is the theoretical and experimental comparison between pose-based and image-based techniques for a nonholonomic robot task. Moreover, our controllers are appropriate not only for path followin...

The use of virtual reality techniques in the development of educational applications brings new perspectives to the teaching of subjects related to the field of civil construction. In order to obtain models, which would be able to visually simulate the construction process of two types of construction work, the research turned to the techniques of geometric modelling and virtual reality. The ap...
