In seven mongrel dogs the syndrome of depression was evoked by bilateral electrolytic lesions in lateral hypothalamus and/or dorsomedial amygdala. The effects of tricyclic antidepressants on general mood, spinal reflexes recorded by electromyographic method, and head rate were tested. The reactivity to most external stimuli was increased and general depression was slightly reduced.

Abstract Background Previous laboratory findings suggest deviant gait characteristics in depressed individuals (i.e., reduced walking speed and vertical up-and-down movements, larger lateral swaying slumped posture). However, since most studies to date assessed the laboratory, it is largely an open question whether this association also holds more naturalistic, everyday life settings. Thus, wit...

We comment on the article by Hasher, Rose, Zacks, Sanft, & Doren (1985) in which they failed to find mood-congruent learning (MCL). MCL occurs whenever subjects learn more about materials that are congruent with their moods (e.g., depressed subjects learn more sad material). Hasher et al. failed to observe MCL with normal college students who scored high versus low on the Beck Depression Invent...

Eysenck (1992) argues that high trait-anxious subjects are more likely to show a general susceptibility to distraction in anxious mood states, especially if the distracting material resembles the task stimuli. Unfortunately there is little direct evidence that supports this view. The present experiment therefore attempted to test Eysenck’s proposition by modifying a test of distractibility for ...

Depressions impose a huge burden on both the patient suffering from a depression as well as society in general. In order to make interventions for a depressed patient during a therapy more personalized and effective, a supporting personal software agent can be useful. Such an agent should then have a good idea of the current state of the person. A computational model for human mood regulation a...
