A method for reconstructing a bandlimited signal from its periodic bunched samples is presented. As in prior approaches, a multirate filter bank structure is used to reconstruct the signal; however, the technique used to design the reconstruction filter bank is different. The solution presented here employs an interpolation filter to model the signal at the input of the reconstruction filter ba...

In this paper we show that the knowledge of noise statistics contaminating a signal can be effectively used to choose an optimal Gaussian filter to eliminate noise. Very specifically, we show that the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) contaminating a signal can be filtered best by using a Gaussian filter of specific characteristics. The design of the Gaussian filter bears relationship with t...

The purpose of this paper is to develop a new approach—time–frequency deconvolution filter—to optimally reconstruct the nonstationary (or time-varying) signals that are transmitted through a multipath fading and noisy channel. A deconvolution filter based on ambiguity function (AF) filter bank is proposed to solve this problem via a three-stage filter bank. First, the signal is transformed via ...

The central nervous system encodes information in sequences of asynchronously generated voltage spikes, but the precise details of this encoding are not well understood. Thorpe proposed rank-order codes as an explanation of the observed speed of information processing in the human visual system. The work described in this paper is inspired by the performance of SpikeNET, a biologically inspired...

In this paper, the theory and design of a class of PR cosinemodulated nonuniform filter bank is proposed. It is based on a structure previously proposed by Cox, where the outputs of a uniform filter bank is combined or merged by means of the synthesis section of another filter bank with smaller channel number. Simplifications are imposed on this structure so that the design procedure can be con...

The design of two-channel filter banks with rational sampling factors is considered based on the use of linearphase finite-impulse response (FIR) filters whose stopband performances are minimized in the least squares sense. It is shown that a proper selection of the filter orders enables one to synthesize a perfect reconstruction filter bank. The optimization of the overall filter bank is carri...

The ability to support multiple channels of different communication standards, in the available bandwidth, is of importance in modern software defined radio (SDR) receivers. An SDR receiver typically employs a channelizer to extract multiple narrowband channels from the received wideband signal using digital filter banks. Since the filter bank channelizer is placed immediately after the analog-...

Much attention has recently been given to the construction of signaladapted orthonormal filter banks designed to optimize a particular objective function such as coding gain or a multiresolution criterion. For certain classes of filter banks, the optimum solution is a principal component filter bank (PCFB), which is simultaneously optimal for several objectives including the ones mentioned abov...

Gaussian filter has been used extensively in signal image processing for many years. Gaussian or Gaussian derivative filtering is in several ways optimal for applications requiring low-pass filters or running averages. In this paper, a highly efficient noise removing technique based on a modified dynamic Gaussian filter is introduced. Called smooth filter, the Gaussian filter is known to be mor...

In this paper, Gaussian and elliptic high pass filters are analyzed for image sharpening qualitatively and quantatively . The filters are implemented in frequency domain using matlab software. Experiments are performed to compare the performance of both the filters ,processed images are presented. The results demonstrate that elliptic yields better results.
