We study topological von Neumann regularity and principal von Neumann regularity of Banach algebras. Our main objective is comparing these two types of Banach algebras and some other known Banach algebras with one another. In particular, we show that the class of topologically von Neumann regular Banach algebras contains all $C^*$-algebras, group algebras of compact abelian groups and ...

We study the size of the range of the derivatives of a smooth function between Banach spaces. We establish conditions on a pair of Banach spaces X and Y to ensure the existence of a C smooth (Fréchet smooth or a continuous Gâteaux smooth) function f from X onto Y such that f vanishes outside a bounded set and all the derivatives of f are surjections. In particular we deduce the following result...

Given two polygonal curves in the plane, there are many ways to define a notion of similarity between them. One popular measure is the Fréchet distance. Since it was proposed by Alt and Godau in 1992, many variants and extensions have been studied. Nonetheless, even more than 20 years later, the original O(n log n) algorithm by Alt and Godau for computing the Fréchet distance remains the state ...

The similarity of two polygonal curves can be measured using the Fréchet distance. We introduce the notion of a more robust Fréchet distance, where one is allowed to shortcut between vertices of one of the curves. This is a natural approach for handling noise, in particular batched outliers. We compute a (3 + ε)-approximation to the minimum Fréchet distance over all possible such shortcuts, in ...

Matching two geometric objects in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) spaces is a central problem in computer vision, pattern recognition, and protein structure prediction. In particular, the problem of aligning two polygonal chains under translation and rotation to minimize their distance has been studied using various distance measures. It is well known that the Hausdorff distance...

We construct Boolean-valued term models and describe their universal properties. The underlying set of these models consists of the terms of the underlying language, while formulae are interpreted in the Lindenbaum-Tarski algebra of open formulae. Subspaces of the Stone space of the Lindenbaum-Tarski algebra of open formulae are shown to be homeomorphic to spaces of enumerated models models equ...

We study the concept of finitary formal topology, a point-free version of a topological space with a basis of compact open subsets. The notion of finitary formal topology is defined from the perspective of the Basic Picture (introduced by the second author) and thus it is endowed with a binary positivity relation. As an application, we prove a constructive version of Stone’s representation theo...

We present a variant of the Fréchet distance (as well as geodesic and homotopic Fréchet distance) which forces the motion between the input objects to follow an ambient isotopy. This provides a measure of how much you need to continuously deform one shape into another while maintaining topologically equivalently shapes throughout the deformation.

It is proved that any non-normable Fréchet space with a semisymmetric absolute basis is isomorphic to the space ω of all scalar sequences. A similar result is shown for quasi-homogeneous absolute bases. It is also proved that any nuclear Fréchet space with a semi-subsymmetric basis is isomorphic to ω.

In this paper, we are focused upon the global uniqueness results for a stochastic integro-differential equation in Fréchet spaces. The main results are proved by using the resolvent operators combined with a nonlinear alternative of Leray-Schauder type in Fréchet spaces due to Frigon and Granas. As an application, a controllability result with one parameter is given to illustrate the theory.
