The local velocity field of young stars is dominated by the galactic rotation, the kinematics of the Gould Belt and the nearest OB associations and open clusters, and the kinematics of the spiral structure. We re-examined here this local velocity field by using a large sample of nearby O and B stars from the Hipparcos Catalogue. The high quality astrometric data are complemented with a careful ...

This contribution refers to the use of lines of equal light intensity, called isophotes, for detecting irregularities of free form surfaces in car body construction. The isophotes show irregularities of surface smoothness, of the Gaussian curvature and of the distribution of the surface normals. The algorithm described was realized in the CADCAM-system Ogsurf-P, a Volkswagen development for car...

Early childhood education is foregrounded in change. In Australia, this has encompassed the introduction, review and updates of national quality curriculum frameworks from 2009, changes to qualification requirements. Within state Victoria, further impacts have occurred due simultaneous introduction a parallel framework. This paper draws on qualitative study examine how diverse teacher discourse...

The Protein Data Bank (PDB) is one of the richest sources of structural biological information in the World. It started to exist as the computer-readable depository of crystallographic data complementing printed papers. The proper interpretation of the content of the individual files in the PDB still needs the detailed information found in the citing publication. An advanced graph theoretical m...

Real cyclic motions tend not to be perfectly even, i.e., the period varies slightly from one cycle to the next, because of physically important changes in the scene. A generalization of period is de ned for cyclic motions that makes periodic variation explicit. This representation, called the period trace, is compact and purely temporal, describing the evolution of an object or scene without re...

Oscillating population data often exhibit cycle irregularities such as episodes of damped oscillation and abrupt changes of cycle phase. The prediction of such irregularities is of interest in applications ranging from food production to wildlife management. We use concepts from dynamical systems theory to present a model-based method for quantifying the risk of impending cycle irregularity.

High androgen levels have been associated with menstrual irregularities in clinical populations, but not in healthy women. We examined the association between testosterone and menstrual irregularities in a nonclinical population of 194 healthy premenopausal women, none of whom reported chronic health conditions. Women provided saliva samples for assay of salivary testosterone, and responded to ...
