An electromagnetic cavity resonator with deep subwavelength size is considered theoretically on plasmonic nanowires with periodically modulated permittivity. In this work, plasmonic nanowires are treated as ∈negative cylindrical waveguides (ENGCWs) in a certain band of frequency whose guided wavelength for a small radius waveguide is small compared to the free-space wavelength. The dispersion r...

Usually, electromagnetic evanescent waves are some kinds of near fields. However, it looks as if the evanescent waves inside a cut-off waveguide had nothing to do with any near field. In this paper, we will show that the evanescent waves inside a cut-off waveguide can also be regarded as the near fields of an aerial array.

Massive Klein-Gordon theory is quantized on a timelike hyperplane in Minkowski space using the framework of general boundary quantum field theory. In contrast to previous work, not only propagating sector phase quantized, but also evanescent sector, with correct physical vacuum. This yields for first time description quanta alone. The key tool novel $\alpha$-K\"ahler quantization prescription b...

We demonstrate the excitation of second harmonic radiation of noncentrosymmetric nanoparticles dispersed on a planar optical waveguide by the evanescent field of the guided mode. Polarization imaging reveals information on the orientation of the crystal axis of individual nanoparticles. Interference patterns generated from adjacent particles at the second harmonic frequency are--to the authors ...

An equivalent circuit model of coaxial probes is derived directly from the intrinsic via circuit model. As all the higher-order evanescent modes have been included analytically in the parasitic circuit elements, only the propagating mode needs to be considered by the simplest uniform-current model of a coaxial probe in numerical solvers such as finite element method (FEM) or finite difference t...

High-extinction on-off modulators are essential for channel selection in integrated-optical sensor arrays. We report a standard SiON-technology-based electrostatically driven integrated mechano-optical waveguide on-off intensity modulator. On-off modulation is achieved by movement of an absorbing element into and out of the evanescent field of the guided mode. An extinction ratio of >37 dB at a...

We investigate the bound and evanescent fields of the optical whispering gallery modes which are supported by a toroid microcavity and which may be used for a wide range of applications. Results of simulations using finite-difference time domain solutions of Maxwell’s equations are compared with semi-analytical solutions based on coupled mode theory. Key parameters such as resonance frequencies...

A spaceand time-adaptive two-dimensional multiresolution time-domain (MRTD) algorithm based on arbitrary resolutions of Battle–Lemarie wavelets is proposed. Analytic expressions for the finite-summation coefficients are derived and details concerning the modeling of hard boundaries, excitation, and field reconstruction are extensively discussed. Through the use of a combination of absolute and ...

Experimental evidence of mode-selective evanescent power coupling at telecommunication frequencies with efficiencies up to 75% from a tapered optical fiber to a metal nanoparticle plasmon waveguide is presented. The waveguide consists of a two-dimensional square lattice of lithographically defined Au nanoparticles on an optically thin silicon membrane. The dispersion and attenuation properties ...

An all-fiber passive laser mode locking is realized with a vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotube film that can be transferred onto an arbitrary substrate using only hot water. A D-shaped fiber is employed as the substrate for the evanescent field interaction of propagating light with the nanotubes. The scheme highlights the efficient interaction achieved by the nanotube alignment as ...
