A range extension for Hahn's short-tailed fruit bat, Carollia subrufa, is reported which extends the distribution of species from Pacific Dry Forest into Moist ecoregion. This raises possibility that may be more widely distributed in Costa Rica than currently supposed, adding almost 30,000 km 2 potential range.

A common theme in recent landscape studies is the comparison of riparian and watershed land use as predictors of stream health. The objective of this study was to compare the performance of reach-scale habitat and remotely assessed watershed-scale habitat as predictors of stream health over varying spatial extents. Stream health was measured with scores on a fish index of biotic integrity (IBI)...

Fishes normally restricted to inland waters are valuable model systems for historical biogeography, inter alia, because of their limited dispersal abilities and concordance with the distribution patterns of other freshwater taxa (Zogaris et al. 2009). The comparison of fish species assemblages has been the major biogeographical tool for delineating African aquatic ecoregions as the fossil recor...

The distribution of flowering across the growing season is governed by each species' evolutionary history and climatic variability. However, global change factors, such as eutrophication and invasion, can alter plant community composition and thus change the distribution of flowering across the growing season. We examined three ecoregions (tall-, mixed, and short-grass prairie) across the U.S. ...

Despite increasing attention to the human dimension of conservation projects, a rigorous, systematic methodology for planning for ecosystem services has not been developed. This is in part because flows of ecosystem services remain poorly characterized at local-to-regional scales, and their protection has not generally been made a priority. We used a spatially explicit conservation planning fra...

The Gigantolaelaps mites (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) are easily recognized by their large size. In Chile, wolffsohni is the only species and it has been reported from four localities, always in association with Oligoryzomys longicaudatus. Our research study aimed to contribute severely limited information about ecology distribution of G. Chile determine whether factors such as season, ecological...

Mangrove ecosystems are threatened by a variety of anthropogenic changes, including climate change. The main aim this research is to quantify the spatial variation in different mangrove carbon stocks, aboveground (AGC), belowground (BGC), and soil (SOC), under future scenarios. Additionally, we sought identify magnitude sea-level rise (SLR) exposure with view identifying regions most likely fac...

Abstract Spectroscopy is a powerful means of increasing the availability soil data necessary for understanding carbon cycling in changing world. Here, we develop calibration transfer methodology to appropriately apply an existing mid infrared (MIR) spectral library with analyte on distribution organic (SOC) into particulate (POC), mineral-associated (MAOC), and pyrogenic (PyC) forms nearly 8000...
