Abstract Kawakawa (Euthynnus affinis) is one of the economically valuable species for Mallaca strait fishermen. This study aims to determine level gonad maturity, size fish’s first ripe gonad, and maturity index (E. caught at Tanjung Beringin’s Auction Place, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra. Three months sampling were conducted, from July September 2021. The maturation gonads was observe...
During routine inspection of a colony of albino western mosquitofish Gambusia affinis, approximately 10 females were discovered to have distended abdominal cavities. Cause for the distention was investigated by examination of tissue sections from four sacrificed individuals, all of which suffered severe ascites. Hermaphroditic gonads were seen in two of the fish.
Ceylon Medical Journal The wasp (Vespa affinis) is common and widely distributed in Sri Lanka. Wasp venom is known to contain factors that release histamine, enzymes, haemolysins, neurotoxins and vasodilators [1]. Case reports with severe multi-organ dysfunction after wasp stings are few in literature. We report two patients who developed severe multi-organ dysfunction following multiple wasp b...
We isolated nine microsatellite loci from the Neotropical understorey tree Miconia affinis (Melastomataceae) and optimized them for research on gene flow and genetic structure. Loci screened in 43 individuals from a 2.26-km(2) region were shown to be unlinked and polymorphic, with 5 to 14 alleles per locus and observed heterozygosity ranging from 0.394 to 0.810.
The main focus of this research is to ascertain the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic and surface morphology a hornet (Vespa affinis) nest. optical microscopic (OM) analysis demonstrated that nest presented an irregular formation partition materials. This was confirmed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which revealed presence unique form with...
The small-scale distribution and retention mechanisms of white perch (Morone americana) and striped bass (M. saxatilis) early-life stages were investigated in the upper Chesapeake Bay estuarine turbidity maximum (ETM). Physical measurements and biological collections were made at fixed-location stations within the ETM during three research cruises in 1998 and two in 1999. Results were compared ...
Feeding, reproduction and accumulation of cyanobacterial toxins by the calanoid copepods Acartia bifilosa and Eurytemora affinis were studied during a cruise in the northern Baltic Sea. The experiments were carried out using both mixtures of natural plankton communities, mixtures containing the toxic Nodularia spumigena, and diets containing only the toxic cyanobacterium. Both copepod species h...
Here we review the literature of a male poecillid's sexually dimorphic body plan, behavior, and nervous system, including work dating from the mid 1800s to the mid 1990s as well as work in press or in preparation for publication. Rosa-Molinar described the remodeling of the sexually dimorphic anal fin appendicular support, confirmed earlier claims about the development of the male and female se...
It is commonly accepted that summer cyanobacterial blooms cannot be efficiently utilized by grazers due to low nutritional quality and production of toxins; however the evidence for such effects in situ is often contradictory. Using field and experimental observations on Baltic copepods and bloom-forming diazotrophic filamentous cyanobacteria, we show that cyanobacteria may in fact support zoop...
Intraspecific variation in body pigmentation is an ecologically and evolutionary important trait; however, the pigmentation related trade-offs in marine zooplankton are poorly understood. We tested the effects of intrapopulation phenotypic variation in the pigmentation of the copepod Eurytemora affinis on predation risk, foraging, growth, metabolic activity and antioxidant capacity. Using pigme...
