The primary aim of the present study was to determine whether intramuscular triacylglycerol (IMTG) utilization contributed significantly to the increase in lipid oxidation during recovery from exercise, as determined from the muscle biopsy technique. In addition, we also examined the regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDHa) and changes in muscle acetyl units during an 18 h recovery period af...

In this study the effect of Al–5Ti–1B grain refiner on the structural characteristics and wear properties of Al–12Zn–3Mg–2.5Cu alloy was investigated. The optimum amount for Ti containing grain refiners was selected as 2 wt.%. T6 heat treatment, (i.e. heating at 460 °C for 1 h before water quenching to room temperature and then aging at 120 °C for 24 h) was applied for all specimens before wear...

Fructoaldolase activity in primate skin and appendages has been assayed with a highly sensitive fluorometric method. Epidermal fructoaldolase has characteristics similar to the fructoaldolases obtained from animal sources. The fructoaldolase activities of various skin structures are remarkably high; all glandular structures (except for apocrine sweat glands which have the highest activity of 24...

Lymphocyte plasma membrane was isolated from minced pig mesenteric lymph node by differential centrifugation and by centrifuging through a sucrose density gradient. The yield of membrane was approx. 0.1% (dry wt. relative to wet wt. of lymph node). The purified material had a sucrose density of 1.14g/cm(3) and consisted mainly of smooth vesicles. The membrane fraction contained, apart from prot...

Most murine models of fungal exposure are based on the delivery of uncharacterized extracts or liquid conidia suspensions using aspiration or intranasal approaches. Studies that model exposure to dry fungal aerosols using whole body inhalation have only recently been described. In this study, we aimed to characterize pulmonary immune responses following repeated inhalation of conidia utilizing ...

Kahgel is one of the oldest traditional mortars in Iran capabilities and performance of which in the past to conserve earthen buildings show that it can be used as a covering for conservation and preservation of earthen architectural structures. The ancient waterproof covering is very efficient at keeping the building dry during the heavy rain showers, but low durability and the need for renewa...

Data are presented on three edible species of tuber (<igna frutescens, Eminia entennulifa, and Ipomoea transvaalensis) consumed by Hadza foragers in northern Tanzania. These species are collected almost year-round by Hadza women but previous analyses of their macronutrient composition are variable and provide results based on the analysis of whole tuber. We examined only edible portions of tube...

The potential of halotolerant algae isolated from natural resources was used to study CO2 fixation and algal lipid production. Biological fixation of CO2 in photobioreactor in presence of salinity is exploited. The CO2 concentration 1060 ppm gave the highest biomass yield (700 mg dry wt/l), the highest total lipid content (10.33%) with 80% of CO2 removal.

A bloom of Karenia brevis Davis developed in September 2007 near Jacksonville, Florida and subsequently progressed south through east Florida coastal waters and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). Maximum cell abundances exceeded 106 cells L-1 through October in the northern ICW between Jacksonville and the Indian River Lagoon. The bloom progressed further south during November, and termi...

To investigate the hypothesis that changes in muscle submaximal exercise metabolism would occur as a result of fiber hypertrophy, induced by high-resistance training (HRT), active but untrained males (age 20 ± 0.7 yr; mean ± SE) performed lower-limb weight training 3 days/wk for 12 wk using three sets of 6-8 repetitions maximal (RM)/day. Muscle metabolism was examined at different stages of tra...
