We present a simple method of measuring viscous drag force on particles in microfluidic environment. Using in-situ polymerization, the effect of particle size and shape on viscous drag force is directly measured, which is crucial to understand motion of microbodies in low Reynolds numbered flow.

In turbulent Taylor-Couette flow, the injection of bubbles reduces the overall drag. On the other hand, rough walls enhance the overall drag. In this work, we inject bubbles into turbulent Taylor-Couette flow with rough walls (with a Reynolds number up to 4 x 10(5), finding an enhancement of the dimensionless drag as compared to the case without bubbles. The dimensional drag is unchanged. As in...

Abstract The authors of the work numerically studied aerodynamic coefficients sail blade, during which patterns three-dimensional flow around airflow and pressure distribution field were obtained. triangular blade is used as power element wind turbines. modeling was based on Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations (RANS) using ANSYS FLUENT computer program. A pattern obtained, gives a physica...

1. The equilibrium gliding performance of a bird is described by the relationship between sinking speed (VB) and air speed (V). When V3 is plotted against V, the points fall in a 'performance area' because the wing span is changed during gliding. 2. The lowest V, for each V in the performance area defines a 'maximum performance curve'. This curve can be predicted by a mathematical model that ch...

In this paper, a thorough 2D unsteady computational fluid dynamic analysis was performed on pitching airfoil to properly comprehend the stall and aerodynamic forces. The software ANSYS Fluent used solve Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations. Low Reynolds number flows were modeled using k-ω shear stress transport turbulence model. Aerodynamic forces, flow structures, separation delay angles ...

monumental changes occurring on a daily basis have altered the world into a global village of expanding technology and shrinking geography in which preparing language learners for intercultural communication seems to be a sine qua non for modern language education. employing a cross-sectional design in its first phase, this study investigated the intercultural sensitivity and language proficien...

[1] We examine wave-current interactions in littoral current shear instabilities above a single-barred beach using a fully coupled wave and barotropic current model based on the multiscale asymptotic theory derived by McWilliams et al. (2004). This Eulerian waveaveraged model captures wave effects on currents (WEC) in a manner that leads to simple interpretations. The dynamically conservative W...

We propose a reduced-order model for the instantaneous hydrodynamic force on a cylinder. The model consists of a system of two ordinary differential equations (ODEs), which can be integrated in time to yield very accurate histories of the resultant force and its direction. In contrast to several existing models, the proposed model considers the actual (total) hydrodynamic force rather than its ...

nowadays, we live in a world which quality, speed, accuracy and cost are the most important parameters in parts' design and manufacturing. due to the complexity of part manufacturing, traditional and nontraditional manufacturing techniques are used. aerodynamic tests usually requires one or several models for testing in wind tunnels and these models typically have particular complexities in whi...

Modelling fluid flows past a body is a general problem in science and engineering. Historical sphere drag and heat transfer data are critically examined. The appropriate drag coefficient is proposed to replace the inertia type definition proposed by Newton. It is found that the appropriate drag coefficient is a desirable dimensionless parameter to describe fluid flow physical behavior so that f...
