The theory of transactional distance has been subjected to a variety of empirical tests and philosophical critiques. Throughout this process, the variable of dialogue has attracted much attention. Although dialogue has proven difficult to measure and define, it is widely regarded as an ideal outcome of the teacher-learner transaction. Considered from a constructivist perspective, dialogue can a...

This paper addresses two issues concerning the separate-bias Kalman estimator. The first of these issues deals with the derivation of the optimal estimator for the general case in which the bias vector is stochastic in nature, and the second issue deals with defining a suitable suboptimal realization of the generalized estimator.

In this paper, we investigate a K3 surface with Picard number three and present evidence that strongly suggests a canonical vector height cannot exist on this surface.

We investigate the rare decay Λb → Λγ which receives both short and long distance contributions. We estimate the long distance contributions and find them very small. The form factors are obtained from Λc → Λlν̄l using heavy quark symmetry and a pole model. The short distance piece opens a window to new physics and we discuss the sensitivity of Λb → Λγ to such effects.

We consider Gowdy spacetimes under the assumption that the spatial hypersurfaces are diffeomorphic to the torus. The relevant equations are then wave map equations with the hyperbolic space as a target. In an article by Grubǐsić and Moncrief, a formal expansion of solutions in the direction toward the singularity was proposed. Later, Kichenassamy and Rendall constructed a family of real analyti...

In the past decade several distance learning initiatives have been implemented in information technology curricula based upon the principles of natural learning. This paper examines the various ways in which distance learning may contribute to 'natural learning'. The main research question is how distance learning provides support to natural learning processes. Our starting point is that studen...

Motivated by the work of Asano et al. [1], we consider the distance trisector problem and zone diagram considering segments in the plane as the input geometric objects. As the most basic case, we first consider the pair of curves (distance trisector curves) trisecting the distance between a point and a line, as shown in Figure 1. This is a natural extension of the bisector curve (that is a para...

We assume that if the sun has a companion, it has a period of 27 Myr corresponding to the periodicity seen in cometary impacts on earth. Based on this assumption, it is seen that the inner Lagrengian point of the interaction between the Sun and its companion is in the Oort cloud. From this we calculate the mass – distance relation for the companion. We then compute the expected apparent magnitu...
