Background and Objectives: Infection is the most common problem following burn injury. Selection and dissemination of intrinsic and acquired resistance mechanisms increase the probability of burn wound colonization by resistant species including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas ae...

A five-center collaborative study was undertaken to develop quality control and specific interpretive criteria for susceptibility testing of Streptococcus pneumoniae against 12 antimicrobial agents. MICs were determined for 248 pneumococcal clinical isolates (with an emphasis on resistant strains) by use of the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS)-recommended broth micro...

the genus teucrium (germander) belongs to the family lamiaceae, within the subfamily ajugoideae .teucrium polium l. (labiatae) has long been recognized in folk medicine in the treatment of many pathophysiological implications, such as gastrointestinal disorders, inflammations, diabetes and rheumatism. in this study antimicrobial activity of two crude extracts obtained from teucrium polium l. wa...

A method was developed to determine the susceptibility of Haemophilus influenzae to ampicillin, cefamandole, and chloramphenicol by using the MS-2 system (Abbott Laboratories) for determining minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC). The MS-2 results for 132 strains of H. influenzae were compared with the results of agar disk diffusion, agar dilution, and beta-lactamase tests. Twenty-four strain...

Two oxacillin disk methods were compared with a cefoxitin disk diffusion test for detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), with PCR for mecA as the reference method. When tested with 115 MRSA and 350 methicillin-susceptible S. aureus isolates, the cefoxitin disk test (specificity 100%, sensitivity 96.5%) was superior to the oxacillin disk methods (specificity 99.1%, sens...

abstract       background and objective: due to the continuous increase of multidrug-resistant acinetobacter baumannii strains around the world, decision making for an effective treatment of infections caused by this organism depends on the results of antimicrobial susceptibility tests. in this study, the validity of disk diffusion and e-test methods was assessed by their comparison with the re...

Introduction: The urinary tract infection is the most common infection and drug resistance to it is increasing. Due to the acute infection, the prescribing of medicine is conducted before culture and antibiogram and according to the results, disk diffusion is adjusted. The aim of this study was to compare it with MIC to determine to what extent the current method could be useful. Methods: This ...
