BACKGROUND Despite advances in surgical techniques, sterile protocols, and perioperative antibiotic regimens, surgical site infections (SSIs) remain a significant problem. We investigated the relationship between wound classification (i.e., clean, clean/contaminated, contaminated, dirty) and SSI rates in plastic surgery. METHODS We performed a retrospective review of a multi-institutional, su...

Dirty paper coding are relevant for wireless networks, multiuser channels, and digital watermarking. We show that the problem of dirty paper is essentially equivalent to some classes of constrained memories, and we explore the binary so-called nested codes, which are used for e cient coding and error-correction on such channels and memories.

We introduce techniques that shed new light on the capacity analysis of multiuser channels, and apply these techniques to broadcast and multiple access channels. We rst determine a duality between broadcast and multiple access channels that can be used to obtain the capacity region and optimal transmission strategy for one channel based on the capacity-achieving transmission strategy and region...

We provide new exact solutions of the Einstein equations which generalize the noncommutative geometry inspired Schwarzschild metric, previously obtained by the authors. We consider here more general equations of state and find new geometries describing both a regular “dirty black hole” and a “wormhole”. We discuss strong and weak energy condition violation and variuos aspects of the regular dir...

We present practical codes designed for the Gaussian dirty paper (Costa) channel. We show that the dirty paper decoding problem can be transformed into an equivalent multiple-access problem, for which we apply superposition coding. Our approach is a generalization of the nested lattices approach of Zamir, Shamai and Erez. We present simulation results which confirm the effectiveness of our meth...

BACKGROUND This analysis assessed whether Blacks, Whites and Puerto-Rican (PR) Hispanics differed in their ability to identify the Tuskegee Syphilis Study (TSS) via open-ended questions following lead-in recognition and recall questions. METHODS The Tuskegee Legacy Project (TLP) Questionnaire was administered via a Random-Digit Dial (RDD) telephone survey to a stratified random sample of Blac...

We provide a unified framework for the high-dimensional analysis of“superposition-structured” or “dirty” statistical models: where the model param-eters are a superposition of structurally constrained parameters. We allow for anynumber and types of structures, and any statistical model. We consider the gen-eral class of M -estimators that minimize the sum of any loss function, a...
