Patients with multiple myeloma may present with several signs and symptoms, inclusive of hemorrhagic diathesis. This case emphasizes the need to suspect uncommon etiologies for common signs and to be aware of the atypical effects of paraproteinemia.
Immune thrombocytopenia and pulmonary tuberculosis presented concurrently in a 20 year old Thai man as a bleeding diathesis. Intravenous immunoglobulin rapidly corrected the thrombocytopenia. Immunofluorescence and immunoblot studies with platelets and mycobacteria showed the presence of platelet surface membrane IgG.

Haemorrhagic diathesis of the newborn is usually characterized by a physiological deficiency of prothrombin and probably also by a deficiency of proconvertin (van Creveld, Paulssen, Ens, Mey, Versteegh and Versteeg, 1954). Sometimes a third clotting-factor, pro-accelerin, is also lacking. We found a simultaneous deficiency both of prothrombin and pro-accelerin in some cases of intra-uterine mel...

A sizeable body of research has demonstrated that expressed emotion (EE) predicts clinical relapse in a number of distinct psychiatric disorders. These findings have provided the impetus for the development of interventions that attempt to reduce patients' relapse rates by modifying aspects of the family environment believed to be associated with high levels of EE. Despite the efficacy of these...
