In this paper, the surface modification of titanium alloys Ti-15Mo, Ti-13Nb-13Zr, and Ti-6Al-7Nb is presented as a material for dental implants. The conditions of the plasma electrolytic oxidation process and alkali treatment were designed in this way to enhance the biological properties of the surface of promising Ti alloys. The differences in their surface morphology and, consequently, in the...

New dental precious metal alloys for resin bonding without alloy surface modification were developed by adding base metals (In, Zn, or Sn). Before this, binary alloys of Au, Ag, Cu, or Pd containing In, Zn, or Sn were studied for water durability and bonding strength with 4-META resin. The adhesion ability of the binary alloys was improved by adding In equivalent to 15% of Au content, Zn equiva...

Recently, titanium-tantalum alloys have been studied as implant materials for dental and orthopedic surgery. However, titanium and tantalum are difficult to mix by common arc melting and induction melting, because of their high melting point and the marked difference between their densities (Ti: 1,680 degrees C, 4.5 g/cm3, Ta: 2,990 degrees C, 16.6 g/cm3). Thus, the Cold Crucible Levitation Mel...

Ti-6Al-4V alloy is the most commonly used alloy for dental and orthopedic implants. In order to improve osseointegration, different surface modification methods are usually employed, including self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). This study presents an investigation of both active (electroassisted) and passive (adsorption) approaches for the modification of Ti-6Al-4V using alkylphosphonic acid. Th...

The casting of cobalt-base alloys in dentistry is comparatively new in relation to the casting of gold alloys and other restorative procedures. It has been less than thirty years since these alloys were introduced to dentistry, but each year they have become more popular. A survey of the choice of dental alloys for removable partial dentures conducted by Lane' in 1949 showed that five times as ...

A synchrotron rf system has been designed for the JAERI-KEK Joint Project for High-Intensity Proton Accelerators in Japan. A new type of rf cavity loaded with MA(Magnetic Alloy) cores will be used for synchrotrons in order to achieve the high field gradient for the rf acceleration. The status of R&D on the cavity is also reported.

Clinical evidence has shown that dental bridge (DB) misfit is more frequent than individual crown restoration misfit, and that it causes restorative failures. A comparative study of misfit profiles was performed for the most common clinical situations in mouth rehabilitation procedures with fixed restorations: gold-cast DB and porcelain metal alloy DB. Evidence from this study may lead dentists...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The osseointegration of dental implant is related to their composition and surface treatment. Titanium zirconium (TiZr) has been introduced as an alternative to the commercially pure titanium and its alloys as dental implant material, which is attributed to its superior mechanical and biological properties. Surface treatments of TiZr have been introduced to enhance their os...

Abstract   Background and Aim: Biocompatibility in some respects depends on the corrosion behavior of dental alloys. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of surface passivation of a cobalt chromium alloy on corrosion behavior. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, 20 samples of Flexicast dental alloy were prepared according to ADA97 standard and after casting, t...

BACKGROUND Every endosseous dental implant is dependent on an adequate amount and quality of peri-implant hard and soft tissues and their fully functional interaction. The dental implant could fail in cases of insufficient bone and soft tissues or due to a violation of the soft to hard tissues to implant shoulder interface with arising of a secondary bone loss. METHOD To overcome this biologi...
