In this paper we consider a plate equation with internal feedback and viscoelastic damping localized on a part of the boundary. Without imposing restrictive assumptions on the time-dependent frictional damping, we establish an explicit and general decay rate result that allows a wider class of relaxation functions and generalizes previous results existing in the literature.

A new method of parameter identification based on linear time-frequency representation and Hilbert transform is proposed in this paper to identify modal parameters of linear time-varying systems from measured vibration responses. With Gabor expansion and synthesis theory, measured responses are represented in time-frequency domain and modal components are reconstructed by time-frequency filteri...

The thermal damping of a dynamic vibrating micromirror is an important factor affecting the design of MEMS based actuator systems. In the development process of new micromirror systems, assessing the extent of energy loss due to thermal damping accurately and predicting the performance of the system is very essential. In this paper, the depth of the thermal penetration layer at different eigenf...

Tendons can function as springs and thereby preserve energy during cyclic loading. They might also have damping properties, which, hypothetically, could reduce risk of microinjuries due to fatigue at sites of local stress concentration within the tendon. At mechanical testing, damping will appear as hysteresis. How is damping influenced by training or disuse? Does training decrease hysteresis, ...

To explain the strong quasiparticle damping in the cuprates, Sachdev and collaborators proposed to couple the system to a critically fluctuating id(xy)- or is-order parameter mode. Here we generalize the approach to the presence of static disorder. In the id case, the order parameter dynamics becomes diffusive, but otherwise much of the phenomenology of the clean case remains intact. In contras...

HITPERM/SiO2 single and multilayer thin films have been produced using a target composition of (Fe70Co30)88Zr7B4Cu1 . The as-deposited HITPERM film contains small bcc ~or B2! nanocrystals of volume fraction less than 10% surrounded by an amorphous matrix. The lattice parameter of the nanocrystal is about 5% larger than an equilibrium FeCo phase. The saturation induction determined from FMR meas...

Quantum secure communication brings a new direction for information security. As an important component of quantum secure communication, deterministic joint remote state preparation (DJRSP) could securely transmit a quantum state with 100% success probability. In this paper, we study how the efficiency of DJRSP is affected when qubits involved in the protocol are subjected to noise or decoheren...

a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t A shunted piezoelectric is a device to suppress vibration consisting of a piezoelectric material and a shunt circuit connecting between two electrodes of the piezoelectric material. The sensitivity of damping performances is analyzed for passive shunted piezoelectrics: a resistive, a series resonant, and a parallel resonant shunted piezoelectric. The parame...

Aims. We use 9.5-yr of BiSON Sun-as-a-star data to search for dependence of solar-cycle parameter changes on the angular degree, l, of the data. The nature of the Sun-as-a-star observations is such that for changes measured at fixed frequency, or for changes averaged across the same range in frequency, any l dependence present carries information on the latitudinal distribution of the agent (i....

Response predictions in structural dynamics are in general very sensitive to random uncertainties associated with the underlying predictive mathematical model. The non-parametric probabilistic model provides the possibility to capture both data and model uncertainties. The uncertainties are introduced at a global level and controlled through one dispersion parameter each, for the mass, damping ...
